Sorry I bought one

I bought this model a few years ago. I was able to use it one time. The following year, I could not get it to start. I was told I might need a new carburetor. I told the clerk it was brand new and only used once. I'd be charged a 100$ to replace it. I did it myself for $35. It now works fine, but we'll see next year. Still not happy I had to replace carb after one use.

The edger was received with engine damage that would lot the Edger start. After much effort the engine was repaired to the point where it will start. The blade strikes the pavement when put into the highest position. MTD Warranty repair facility will not correct the problem because it was their determinartion that the Edger was improperly assembled. The fight goes on with MTD.

I've used a lawn edger for years and was able to get a full season from the edger blade. There isn't a guide on this model and the edger blade is already needing replacing. I called MTD, was told I'm not using the product correctly and there was nothing they would do except sell me more blades. I should have bought a better model.

Yard Machines Edger

Received product damaged. The recoil shroud was compressed on one side which did not allow the rope to rotate engine. Rather than returning the product, I removed the shroud and repaired the compressed areas. Lost an hour of my time. It did not appear to be a shipping problem. The damage occurred prior to packing.

Do NOT buy this

The edger bevel positioning arm adjustment lever broke repaired and it broke again. It is very difficult to replace this arm/lever.
The Briggs & Stratton engine is cheap (I've always found them to be poorly made). It is very difficult to start. It may have started with two or three pulls a couple of times, but I ended up having to buy a can of starter fluid (ether) to get it to start. It has no adjustment for fuel or choke. I contacted Briggs & Stratton who said I had to deal with MTD Yard Machines. No help help from either - no attempt at helping. Seems that both disown the engine.

Leave for the Junkman

I purchased this unit about five years ago and have had nothing but problems with it. The engine works fine, but everything else on it is made from very poor quality parts. I am constantly replacing the same broken parts and I could have purchased a good commercial unit for what I paid in repairing this unit. Avoid the headache and stay away from this MDT junk.

Purchased this model from mowersdirect. The product worked fine the first two uses then quit. Mowersdirect told me to take it in for warranty repair. The small engine shop I took it to told me the carburator was dirty and needed cleaning - it's a new product, new gas, etc!! They cleaned the carburator and charged me $66 saying that it wasn't covered. A $260 edger cost me $326 from this place.

Never starts unless you use starting fluid. Tale my word for it, and I live in valley city Ohio where MTD is based. I'll never buy MTD again.
