Tips to avoid clogging sand & understanding tip replacement
By Pete W.

Two quick points:

1. Rig a cheap 5 gallon bucket with the sand hose coming out the bottom to feed your wet sandblaster. Elevate the sand bucket to enlist gravitys work in feeding sand to your blaster, hanging by bucket handle. Keep the top covered to minimize water and debris contaminating your sand. When possible, keep the sand hose entry to the wand ABOVE the wand to avoid water entering the sand hose. When this is not possible during the blasting, instruct operator that he should minimize time spent with sand hose on lower side, especially when his trigger is not activated.

2. The tip is a consumable, just like the blasting media. If you think the tip wears out excessively, compare the cost of replacing the tip to the alternative method of dry blasting with expensive media. Remember that cheap sand is ok in wet blasting- no dust, but cannot be used with dry blasting due to silicosis from sand particles in the resulting dust.

Replacing tips in wet blasting with cheap sand may be cost effective compared to longer lasting tips when dry blasting with expensive media and remember to add in clean up cost of media, which may differ with cheap wet sand vs dry media and dust.

Painting projects.

I am a Department Manager with the Von Braun Center in Huntsville AL. We are a multi purpose, convention, entertainment, sports facility. We have an inhouse maintenance department which takes care of the facility HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural aspects of the facility.

We recently purchased a PressurePro Model E404HC, 400PSI rated pressure washer, from Pressure Washers Direct at a reasonable price. We will use this pressure washer for many differant projects, but we will primarily use it to prep for exterior painting projects. We have been using the pressure waher for a couple of months now and it seems to be performing well. This pressure washer has the honda engine and cat pump which seems to be a good combination.

We also purchased an AR industrial sandblasting kit to use with the pressur washer. I have never attempted sandblasting in this manner before. We decided to give it a try, so we wouldnt have to rent an air compressor and sandblasting rig, but it didnt work out very well for us. The sandblasting nozzle wore out pretty quickly, and the wand clogged with wet sand quite frequently.

As we were not experianced in sandblasting in this manner, and we really didnt receive any operating tips with the wand, I suppose it is possible we may have been doing something incorrectly. In the long run we decided to do our sandblasting in the traditional manner. Although the sandblasting wand didnt work out for us, I believe the pressure washer will continue to perform well.

Product Questions Answered by Jim, the Pressure Washer Expert
I've got a 3000PSI 3GPM unit and I would like to use the unit as a wet sodablaster. What would be the best suited tip. And do you have any suggestion as to the PSI I should be running the unit at? I will be cleaning rough concrete of stains & paint. And an open grille aluminum roll up door.
