Hack For Frozen Stage 2 After Storage
By Don
Michigan
Review Posted 03/10/2025
I agree that melted snow water can accumulate at the bottom of the thrower case. Even when it's quite cold and leftover snow in the chute or the thrower case will melt from the engine heat. This will refreeze during storage and will stall the engine when you try to engage the auger/thrower.
Now I put some 3 inch blocks of wood under the tires when I store it so that the water runs out of the thrower base. So far so good.
I always drain the gas (siphon) and run it until it stalls. This way I know that the carb and float bowl are dry. This is where the gas gums up the worst.

Ariens 624E
By Steve B.

Review Posted 11/27/2022
It's been a great snowblower! The only issue we've had after 4-5 years of use has been when the snowblower is colder than heavier wet snow. At those times the wet snow freezes to the metal chute and clogs up the chute. Ski wax and/or some other substance might work in those situations but I'd guess it'd only work for so long. Not fun in this situation. Otherwise the blower has worked flawlessly. Never have had to use the electric start. It pull starts pretty well and will remain running if you use the primer bulb a bit right after it starts (more so when it is pretty cold outside). Once it warms up a bit it's good to go and will restart in one pull if it is warm.

Ariens 624e Shear Bolts
By Milton

Review Posted 02/24/2011
I purchased an Ariens 624e from Snow Blowers Direct in 2008. The website was easy to navigate and find the right snow blower. The delivery was trouble free. After several uses, it took some fine tuning to get the proper height adjustment. The other issue was that Ariens skid plates are metal, which caused some problems on my paved driveway. I replaced the skids with rubber based material. That made a world of difference.
In the most recent, historic snow fall of this year (2011), I tore a shear bolt. I didn't realize that was the issue, but after doing a little internet research on the fact that only one side of my auger was turning, I diagnosed the shear bolt issue. I then ordered the replacement part and watched a DIY video on replacement. I received the part in a few days and replaced the bolt trouble free. Back to snow blowing!

I knew I needed to order shear bolts but the part number I had was different from the part number on your site.
I emailed Customer Service and received a response within minutes. I ordered the parts and they were shipped out that day!
You can not beat that kind of support and without a doubt if I have other snow blower needs Snow Blowers Direct.com will be the first thing that comes to mind.

GO BUFFALO
By Michael DellaPenna
Lockport, New York
Review Posted 01/21/2009
I live in Buffalo, home of "lake effect" snow.
Nothing so far seems to get in the way of this beast- this is my second Ariens. I had a single stage, 5 HP and sold it to my buddy (he loves it).
I needed a bigger one for my new driveway. I have a paved driveway and a wood deck that the unit does a nice job clearing.
I even got my neighboor to go out and buy the same one!

Always starts, even in sub-zero weather
By Oak Smith

Review Posted 12/30/2008
We have been having a record year for snow here in Southwest Colorado.
I bought this just before the winter hit. I have been using it HARD. It always starts, even in sub zero weather. I have yet to need the electric start feature.
I have a gravel driveway and wood decks, and it clears both with ease. The fit and finish of this product is extraordinary.
Oil changes are easy due to the oil drain plug placement, and it will go unbelievably long on a small tank of gas.
I would recommend this snow thrower without reservation.

Shear Pin-Prepare in the fall
By Tim Mathern
Fargo, North Dakota
Review Posted 12/30/2008
On my maiden voyage with our new 624E I ran into a hidden cement lawn ornament! No problem, I installed the new shear pin I found in the bag holding the manual.
I also shredded some plants due to the section of the sidewalk only being 18 inches wide and the blower 24 inches!
My wife took a turn too so she will be prepared to take over when I am gone.
Next fall we will need to do some snow planning so the yard and sidewalks are ready for us.

Works Great!
By Ola Joe

This machine starts right up and moves snow quickly.
Here is the best part: You can move snow and adjust the throwing direction at the same time.
I thought all snow blowers with chute controls could do this but they can't. Also this one lets you shift on the fly forward or reverse, and it covers a lot of ground fast.

Won't Start after Summer
By Tom
Tyngsboro, Massachusetts
Review Posted 12/19/2008
I purchased this December 2007 and it worked well last winter. I stored it indoors over the summer with fuel stabilizer (same mixture that worked in my lawn mower over the winter), and it flat out won't start this year. Having paid 4x what a lawn mower costs, this snow thrower should be at least as tough as the lawn mower, instead it's a total prima dona. All the time saved by not shoveling is being wasted on maintenance. Absurd.
