Orange Is The New Snow Blower

I love this blower!!! Finally, in Michigan, we got some snow. It starts so easy even after sitting out in sub-zero temps. The nice ridge of snow left by the plow trucks is no match for this machine. I also like that it is gentle on the grass so I can clear a path to the shed.

I bought one for myself a few years ago and now it’s time to start taking care of my parent's snow so I bought one for their house. They do a great job and don’t take up much room in the garage.

Let Me Point This Out First

Before you buy this machine, please realize that filling the fuel tank. Turning the fuel on and off is located under the plastic cover. You can’t see how much fuel you have till it’s overflowing. The fuel shut off is way down on the side and only with the smallest of hand can you reach it. Lastly, the drive belt is an issue. The first one broke the first season and damaged the assembly. Yes, they fixed it under warranty. Two seasons later it just did it again. Understand I have a two-stage unit for the big snows so it’s not from abuse. If I was making the decision today I would step up to the commercial model for the extra $$$ or get a Honda for even more $$$$.

Great Snow Blower!

The snow blower is made in USA, so it's well made. The snow blower was shipped very quickly in just one day and it only took about 15 minutes to assemble. The snow blower started on the first pull and the moved snow very well. I cant wait to use it again! I also have an Ariens lawnmower that also works great.

Better Than Honda!
By Ken B.

Purchased 12/26/2017 |

I live in New England. I was a loyal Honda snow blower owner for years. I had one of their earlier Honda single stage throwers that has lasted for over 20 years now. Great machine, but it is growing old, so I figured I would invest in a new one. So, in the Fall of 2017, I bought the top of the line Honda single stage thrower. Come winter and I was very disappointed with how the Honda performed in a mere 5 inches of snow. The Honda has both design and performance issues. I was shocked - and really really angry after spending $700 for it.

So, I tried this Ariens and love it! It's more powerful than the Honda. Started on the first pull out of the box and every first pull since then. It runs quieter and smoother than the Honda. It's wider than the Honda, lighter, and best of all, it works on bare grass where the new Honda performed very poorly digging into the ground and sending up chunks of grass. That's important to me because I need to keep a path cleared for some utilities. Best of all, the Ariens costs less than the Honda. So glad I found this Ariens. Buy it and you won't be disappointed.

Expensive Product & Horrible Performance

I reviewed snowblower after snowblower for two months before I settled for this snowblower, and I am highly disappointed. I am so disappointed that I would like to return the product.

First, the good... This engine is by far the best engine I have ever used. When it was 2F out, it started on the very first pull. Speaking of the engine, a main reason that I went with this Ariens snowblower was because it doesn't have a lot of the plastic junk in the way of the engine. VERY easy to maintain. The machine throws snow like a beast! The built quality also seems to be great, but lacks in two very important areas for performance.

Now, the bad...
1. Price - I spent $100 more for this single-stage than my friend did for an entry level two-stage. I love her snowblower a lot more than mine.
2. Snow kicks out at my feet - This is the most annoying issue. Please see the picture. I blow the snow, then I have to shovel again. Unacceptable from a $599 snowblower. A lot of snowblowers use a spring feature on the bottom to scrape the ground, but Ariens does not. It is a fixed bar, that has to be manually adjusted.
3. Remote Chute Control - Spending $100 extra for a handle mount chute was a tough one to swallow, but I tried it out at a store and loved the roughly 190 degrees of movement. I could throw snow behind! I told myself, "If this snow blower lasts for 10+ years, it is well worth the $100 extra." so, I got it. It worked as designed at first and was a great investment. Then, when I used it at 2F, it only had about 100-120 degrees, unacceptable. It makes doing my snow very difficult.

I used to love doing the snow, now I dislike it. I have never been this disappointed in a product before.

Ariens, please do not respond saying, "I am sorry for your dissatisfaction. Please take to your nearest dealer to have the scraper bar and chute control adjusted." I want you to come and pick it up. I am an engineer by profession and I am more than capable of looking at it, but I refuse to. This thing should work out-of-the-box like a new car does. Besides, I bet it will take weeks for my Ariens dealer to look at it.

Thank you.

Manufacturer Response
Thank you for your review of the Ariens Path Pro Single Stage snow blower. We are sorry to hear of your disappointment with the performance of this machine.
Our single stage snow blowers are set at the factory with the scraper bar in the highest setting and the end user does need to make the final adjustments based on their surface conditions. Page 15 of your Owner's Manual goes into more detail on the adjustment of your scraper bar.
If there is an defect with your chute adjustment, your local service dealer will be able to diagnose the cause and perform any necessary repairs. Your service dealer will be able to repair your machine and apply any applicable warranty coverage.
We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and we thank you for your patience and understanding while this is corrected.

Took me months of research to purchase this machine. We just had our first storm of 2018 in Suffolk county Long Island. 14-inches of snow and this machine didn’t hesitate. Even went through the end of the driveway where the plow came by. Highly recommended this machine.

So Far A Back Saving Wonder!
By Jim C.
Berwick, Maine
Review Posted 12/23/2017
Bought this little gem after my 12hp Craftsman finally died. Was a little concerned it might not be big enough for southern Maine winter, but so far so good. Have had 3 storms, so far, some wet some light and the biggest about 7 inches. Performed better than my ginormous Craftsman each time. And even though Craftsman was self-propelled it was a back breaker. My god this Ariens feels like I’m pushing a broom. I think the neighbors are getting envious. I would rather use my Ariens 3 times in a big storm instead of using the Craftsman once. I highly recommend the Path Pro.

Customer service leaves much to be desired
By Martin G.

First let me say that Snowblowers Direct is awesome. Shipped and received in two days on the east coast. Couldn't ask for more. With that said, I unpacked the machine and everything looked good. I did the minimal assembly that is required and noticed that the remote chute handle was extremely difficult to use( lots of resistance to the point it felt like the handle would break). obviously this couldn't be right. I started to loosen the three screws that hold the chute on and the resistance freed up quite a bit but the chute was too loose (the screw heads weren't even contacting the chute base)

The cause of the resistance was the cover of the unit has a lip that the chute rotates on and the lip was distorted and slightly damaged so as soon as you tighten the chute there is a lot of friction as the lip is not perfectly round. Bottom line is I need a new cover. Contacted Ariens customer service and told them my problem and what part was defective. Most companies would send you a replacement part with no questions.

Some may want you to send the defective part back to them on their dime. Some may request a few pictures of the damage before sending out a new part. Well Ariens customer service wants me to load up a brand new 90 lb. snowblower and bring it to the nearest service center during snow season so they can evaluate what the problem is. Who knows how long before the service center gets to it. This thing is brand new never used! If I was using it for a season or even a few weeks then that's a different story. Very disappointed in Ariens response to this situation. This is my first Ariens product and well you can guess the rest of the sentence.

Manufacturer Response
We're sorry to hear of your frustrating experience. This is certainly not a common issue with these machines. That being said, it is difficult to verify or diagnose an issue without seeing the machine in person. We rely on our dealers to be our eyes, ears, and hands. They are able to inspect, diagnose, and repair any issues with our machines. Part of the reason for not simply sending the part is to ensure that there is not more than one issue that is causing your chute rotation resistance. Also, this ensures that the part is professionally installed to prevent any future issues. We certainly apologize for the inconveniences of this situation with your new snow blower. We thank you for your patience and understanding in this situation. If you do have further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us using our Support Site.

Thank you,
Tyler
