Some Improvement Over Raking
By William B

Review Posted 05/04/2022
The machine is quality constructed and the Honda engine always starts on the first pull. It vacuums up the large Magnolia leaves extremely well but doesn't quite get all the smaller Live Oak ones. On even terrain it is a piece of cake to operate, but bumpy sections require considerably more effort. A nice feature is that the vacuuming height is adjustable, but the adjustment knob requires many turns to affect a height change. The collection bag is quite cumbersome to empty completely. Closing the bag properly after emptying required some practice. I do like the machine but it's more work to use than I had anticipated. Would I recommend it to a friend? Not sure. By the way, my neighbors were shocked at the price.

Good, But Not Perfect

The unit is very nice, Honda engine is a big plus, starts on the first or second pull every time. Machine is a beast when it comes to sucking up leaves. My only complaint is the bag, it's a real pain to empty & hook back up. I think the zipper bag was much better.

Even Better Than I Thought - Worth The Wait!

I was amazed with how well the Billy Goat worked! While I couldn't get in it time for last fall's leaf fest, I am excited for the late season this year to tackle an otherwise difficult job. The engine is easy to start and it is very easy to operate and maneuver. I'm thrilled with this purchase and a neighbor is already making plans to buy his own after seeing how well mine works.

Nice Machine, But Not Perfect
By John L.

The machine is a beast. It's great at vacuuming up the leaves, but the problem is the bag. I do not like the bag design, it's hard to empty with the 2 clips holding the bag together. I liked the zipper version much better. I also find checking the oil to be difficult with the hose attachment installed. I'm glad I paid extra for the Honda engine, it starts on either the first or second pull, with hardly any effort at all. I also purchased the hose attachment to get into hard to reach spots. It's good, but I don't like the way it attaches to the machine and how it is stored on the machine.

The Best Product For Removing Lots Of Leaves
By Douglas H.

Purchased 10/23/2021 |

Just the greatest as it cut my time by three quarters. It used to take me hours as I have a lawn area and a long driveway. AND two large trees. The handheld one I used last season kept getting clogged up. This unit does not clog. I believe it will last for years, and I intend to keep using it past the 2022 or 2024 deadline as no more gas items will be allowed here in California. If there is no electric one as powerful (I doubt it), I'll keep using this one. Or the state can vacuum my area for me.

It was easy to assemble. It works very well. The pull cord is too long and takes some getting used to. We're the only one in the neighborhood that has anything like this. Everyone is struggling with their leaves because they have stayed on the trees longer than usual. They are using different tricks to keep from doing a lot of raking, not us. Our raking days are over. Lots of yard tool envy going on.

It moves too fast to pick up yard waste. I wish it moves slower. I do most of the work out of gear.

Game Changer!

Wonderful product! I haven't used it very much yet, but I have to say that I've never seen anything like it before! It does an awesome job sucking up the debris that I couldn't imagine doing in other ways, particularly now I have a very large yard with pine needles (large and very small) and pine cones that have sharp thorns on them. No, I didn't choose these trees! Easy to assemble, although I did add a few washers here and there to make sure things stayed secure! Great engine! Starts first pull straight out of the box. Instructions are adequate, although I'm used to sparse instructions.

On the downside, the debris bag is difficult to remove, empty, and reinstall. It's cumbersome. But I'll deal with it given what this machine does. On another note, and I mean this quite literally, this machine emits a tone proportional in frequency to engine rpm, which is so penetrating I find it uncomfortable and disturbing. Both earplugs and earmuffs worn together don't block this really loud sound out effectively for me. This noise limits my use of the machine because I don't want to damage my ears any more than they already are.

This noise is due (most likely) to the nature of the impeller and the regular vane spacing. A recommendation might be to use somewhat irregularly spaced vanes on the impeller just like engineers did on engine fans decades ago. It has to be rebalanced carefully. This really cuts down on noise, and just might work on this machine.

Buyer Be Aware - Eyes Wide Open

Billy Goat has high brand recognition. The Honda engine is top quality and the unit is lightweight. I found the manufacturing quality, fastener sizing, fit finish, and durability to be disappointing. Nothing fits like expected and the add-on features require alternations. I went to YouTube for suggestions. Assembly manuals suck! The KV650SPH is not robust or well thought out with the daily use features. Everything takes a sequence to operate. The add on hose kit is short, cumbersome, and needs alterations. You can’t start the machine with the hose stowed in place. I could have bought two Craftsman 4:1 units for one of these. The fasteners and hand knobs are wimpy, and I anticipate having to beef these up with through bolts and heavier hardware. Generally, the buyer should be aware the Billy Goat brand recognition doesn’t represent quality and durability. It is American made, so maybe that’s worth some of my disappointment?
