Great For The Price

The drive gearing is too high, any more than very low engine speed requires running to keep up.
Would be better with a full width roller at the back, I am getting a mark in the cmt grass from the drive chain.
The user manual states the clutch will be tight when new. Leaving the engine running for more than 2 minutes when emptying the catch box caused tons of burning rubber smoke.
I found the tension roller for the right side drive chain was about 2" away from the chain causing the chain to slap against the cover.
I always suspected my lawn needed to be flatter, with this mower it is now 100% obvious with the wheel or the optional roller fitted.
Spend a little more and get a roller, a far better finish quality.
Be prepared to cut your grass 3 or 4 times per week, or as soon as it's 1/4" longer than when you last cut it. Far superior finish to a rotary mower.

Easy to maneuver on hills and drainage ditches. Plenty of power to negotiate small hills. The blades don’t pull the grass they actually cut it. No tire marks with the front roller addition. Fairway quality lawn.

I love the mower but it is heavy. It takes getting used too with turning and maneuvering. It cuts really close and clean. It started on the 2nd pull out of the box. I love the rollers instead of wheels because it doesn't create ruts in the turf. I would recommend this mower for fine grasses, for sure.

Almost Perfect For Meyer Zoysia Grass

What a great machine. It trims (cuts) my Meyer Zoysia like a hot knife through butter. The cut is incredibly smooth and even and looks absolutely professionally and beautifully done. I put off buying a reel mower for a long time because of the cost. I now wish I'd gotten this mower sooner.
The title of this review is "Almost" Perfect and that's due to one or maybe two design flaws that I've found that are significant enough to mention. Meyer Zoysia is supposed to be kept at 1 1/2 to 2 inches tall with 2 inches preferred (according to the nursery that put my lawn in). I use the front roller instead of the wheels. When you set the mower to 2 inches it becomes difficult to turn around at the end of the row due to the drive wheel being so high up already not allowing you to tip the mower back to raise the blade and make the turn.
The only other thing, and it's relatively insignificant, and would not lower my opinion is that the left discharging tendencies of the reel cause the grass to be thrown outside of the grass catcher. What isn't thrown outside of the catcher collects on the left side of the container and runs out the back. Again, not a big deal especially if mowing often enough that collection isn't needed.
HUGE ++PLUS++ for Mowers Direct. I ordered the front roller when I ordered the machine to replace the standard wheels. I expected to have to install these myself once I got my complete order. SURPRISE! Mowers Direct attached the roller before it left the warehouse and then packaged the wheel assembly in the box with the mower. NOW THAT'S ABOVE AND BEYOND CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! As heavy as this machine is, I'm so so grateful for that service.

I waited a month to get it, and I am very satisfied. It's a great mover and works as advertised! I gave my grass a neat professional looking cut. After using a conventional push mover for years, the handling of this mover took a little getting used to at first, but it’s all good now.

This is my first gas-powered reel mower. It is heavy and takes some time to get used to. But it is a quality mower that cuts like a dream. The Manual is well written. Assembly was easy. I have a Briggs and Stratton engine, which starts on the first or second pull and is powerful. Again mower will give you a smooth and beautiful cut. I really enjoy using it. Very good mower.

I bought the California Trimmer High Cut after using an old McLane last year. I wanted a new mower and after much research, decided on California Trimmer. Thus far, I'm very pleased with this machine. I like many of the options(gas shit off, on/off button, ability to adjust blade). It has a beautiful sharp cut. I hope to enjoy it for years to come.
