Bought this after hurricane Charley in 2004. Still fires up. A dependable workhorse. Loud as heck, but it puts out a lot of power.

I purchased mine in 1998 ran it for 5 days..due to power outagelll I have started it a few times in the last 23 years....and have changed the oil (30w) a few times..always have run it with a bit of sea foam...and non oxy gas...and run it till the gas is empty..I had to use it today due to another extended power outage....it has run for 20 hours so far...with out a hitch...it has a 10hp briggs and stratton....I have changed the spark plug...and added a on/off switch...if you take care of them they will run for you...mine is currently power two refrigerator freezers...a computer..a small tv..and my internet router...

Great Product

I bought this unit in August 2007 I pulled it out of the barn the other day after sitting there 8 yrs. Sprayed a couple shots of starting fluid in the carb and it cracked on the 2nd pull but shutdown after 3 sec. Pulled the carb, plug cleaned them tried to crank it wouldn't start took the bowl off and no gas found out the fuel shut off valve screen was plugged and collapsed and rubber crommett was corroded. Ordered new from Amazon delivered in 2 days installed it and runs like new .plugged in my volt meter running 122v and 120v with load.

The most undependable tool I own

My generator, the 6250, doesn't put out a lot of electricity- I can't depend on it to run a lightbulb in a blackout.
I am 51 years old and have bought and used a lot of tools. This is, without any exaggeration, the lousiest tool or equipment I have bought in my entire life.

Same Generator- No Problems
By Sean McCarty

Review Posted 12/16/2008
I have the same generator and have used it for years with no problems at all, including the recent ice storm in New Hampshire where it ran great for 4 days.
I would say that your "issue" is an isolated incident. Did you remember to put the dipstick back in???

dont buy a coleman

Review Posted 05/31/2008
I bought a Coleman Powermate generator. I got one two year ago just if I need one after a storm. Well, it stayed in the box till a few day ago. I put oil in it, started it up, and oil went everywhere. Mine was a coleman powermate 6250, so if you ask me, go some where else to buy a good generator.
My name is Terry. Hope I help someone to not make the same mistake I made.

Coleman Powermate is liquidating this generator. Great opportunity to buy a storm generator at a very affordable price.
Limited quantity available. Once they're gone -- they're gone for good.
If you want to save even more money, EGD has a reconditioned 5000 watt generator available. It doesn't come with a wheel kit, but you can get it for a steal. :)

I have owned this model genset for about 4 years and have so far never had to use it for any extended period. It has however served fine for running power tools, lights, etc. for mechanical and building projects. I am dissapointed in the lack of voltage regulation feature that could possibly create problems w/sensitive electronics. Otherwise, this has proven to be a handy to use raw power, lower cost unit. The Tecumseh engine needs to have fuel with STABIL fuel additive in it if stored and be cranked and run about 15-20 minutes every couple of months. It helps to spray a shot of engine starting fluid into the bottom of the air cleaner with the choke half on until the engine fires and runs a bit. The Tecumseh HM10 engine is a good motor but is very sensitive with load and govenor settings and it may "hunt" a bit
(speeds up/down) for short time then it will settle down and run very steadily. So far it has been a decent lower cost unit...just remember it is a "raw" power genset that will run your fridge, furnance, power tools, lights and most other things electrical...but I wouldn't power up my new large screen LCD or projection TV or a computer without a power regulated supply into one of these machines.
