Mower will not start again after warm up
By Larry M.

Review Posted 09/29/2014
The mower will not restart for 15 minutes after running it long enough to fill the grass bag. I took it to a warranty service center and I was told it was a common problem with this model. They took it apart and adjusted a throttle spring but it did not fix it. I am considering returning the mower.

So far so good

Mower was received a day earlier than expected, which was wonderful. While a bit heavy, it handles with ease and will run for quite a while on a single tank of gas.

I am concerned with the durability of the self-drive lever as it feels flimsy and has more play than I would like in the up and down movement. It has held up after 5 or 6 uses.

In addition, after about 30 minutes of use, restarting the engine after emptying the bag is suspect. While the engine will restart, it is a very slow start up. The engine can take more time than expected to get to full speed. At times, I think it is not going to start. So far, it always gets to full acceleration and ready to mow again.

I am happy with the cost and hope it will last me years to come.

Just what I needed
By Frank T.

My mower arrived on time as promised although FedEx had it on its side and slightly damaged the box the mower was in good condition.

I mow 1/2 acre of hills, swales, culverts, under and between lots of shrubs and low palms. After two uses and a little tweaking this mower is exactly what I wanted.

The so so:

Rear left wheel has a slight wobble but it does not effect its operation. Took it apart and all is fine, plastic wheel seems to have been taking the weight when it was on its side in the truck and the FL summer heat caused a slight warp.

Threw away the yellow plastic piece on the safety bale, its uncomfortable.

The drive control mounting seemed a little flimsy compared to the same system on my old FWD Husky but works and I am not concerned about it any more.

The height adjuster lever is too long and can get caught or hit dropping the deck. I threw a couple zip ties around it.

The starter cord keeper is too long and sticks straight up so gets caught on low branches. Flipped it over.

The great :

The drive system. I start, stop, reverse, back and forth, and turn a bunch. Purchased this mower specifically for the same single lever drive system I have had on two Husky mowers and it works great. Sorry to see it being phased out. "personal pace" systems or the like just won't work on my yard.

The motor is strong, relatively quiet, and started first pull the first time and every start since. I stop and start several times during mowing, no problems with cold or hot starts. Uses less gas than the 190cc side valve B&S. I go through two tanks each mowing.

Cuts great, even at 4" setting. I use the side discharge so cannot comment on mulching or bagging but it cuts so fine and spreads the cutting well so no clumping or clipping trails.

RWD speed is perfectly paced and runs up the hills like its on tracks. With my old FWD mower the wheels would spin and slip up hills, it was a half drive, half push affair. This mower will pull you up hill. Made my job much, much easier.

Vickie,

If you are having issues with the wheels, please give us a call and we would be happy to help you out. The wobble in the left wheel may be due to the bolt coming loose or an issue with the bracket. This is something we can assist with, so please let us know if you need help.

Ups delivery almost repeats disaster
By Robert L.

I opened my garage door, backed out, and crushed my Cub Cadet that I had just brought home from repair shop for new wheels and a tune up. Soooo, I ordered a new one from you. And what did the UPS Man do? He delivered down the driveway around the side of the house and in front of the garage door. Unaware of the delivery, that evening I got in my car, opened the garage door, and backed into the box, smashing it. HOWEVER, to my amazement, the mower was totally undamaged, due to luck and some good packing.

I did have to have a neighbor more mechanical than I adjust the self propel mechanism because it didn't work, but after that everything was hunky dorry.

Great mower!
By Paul E.
Burlington, Massachusetts
Review Posted 07/07/2014
First, I have to say that I was completely disappointed with Mowers Direct on this purchase. I am a long-time customer and have all positive experiences, until now. The mower was delivered damaged. It appears as though someone either dropped it from the top of a rack, or hit it with a fork truck and then it sat for so long someone grabbed it and shipped it to me. The front wheel mount was bent in 3/4" and the transmission was rammed into the deck so hard that it bent the pulley and froze up the transmission.

Now for the mower review. The larger rear wheels get great traction. The mower starts on the first pull every time. It mulches and bags like no other mower I've had before! When the mower arrived damaged, I had to go buy another one to get my yard done. I bought a Honda. I fixed the Cub Cadet myself as Cub Cadet wouldn't honor the warranty and neither would Mowers Direct.....

Once I fixed the Cub Cadet, the Honda went into storage. This mower, for me at least, runs circles around the more expensive Honda!

I would buy this mower again in a heartbeat. I'm just not so sure if I would get it from Mowers Direct again.....

Paul,

According to our notes we have, it states "minor shipping damage". This sounds like something a little more than minor. This being said in situations like these because the unit had been gassed, we have no problem in offering parts if this solves the issue. If you had to take the unit to a servicing dealer or needed to get parts on your own, we apologize, but some units may or may not need to be inspected further. For the parts you needed, this is something we would have no problem in discussing reimbursement for. Please give us a call and we can discuss further, we would just need a receipt for the parts you had to purchase.

Junk

Arrived with a bent wheel, not discovered until after I gased it up and put the oil in. Then 15 minutes after I started cutting, the self-propelled feature stopped working. And its not a light mower to push. So off to the Authorized repair center. 10 days later picked it up, 5 days after that 5 minutes into cutting the self-propelled goes out again. So now I guess I'm off to the Authorized Service Center again.

The Mower

My old mower would cut until the cows come home, but it had a bent crank and I was worried that I could lose a foot. SO I bought a mower that I figured could replace that mower...I have a riding mower but sometime it is necessary to use something else. So I bought a self propelled mower. I now cut 3 of the neighbor's lawns and it is great. The only option I wish it had was system to fill plastic bags and discharge them while cutting. Like a hay baler and leave the bags for later removal. Now that would be a mower... Think about it..
