Nice compressor for my purposes. Could use a better drain petcock. Had to fab a 4x4 stand to access the drain. Pretty quiet.

Perfect For Me....Almost

First, I had an issue with the shipper (which doesn’t reflect on ACD). I called them to get an approximate time of delivery since I borrowed a forklift. The compressor didn’t come that day. After having the forklift all day, my friend had to come and trailer it away only to trailer it back again the next day. Also, the compressor’s oil sight glass was clear...couldn’t tell if it was empty or over full. And the oil drain plug wouldn’t budge to see if there was oil in it. I called the DeWalt helpline where I was on hold about 10 minutes. The woman who answered was of no help whatsoever either with the question of the oil or the stuck drain plug. No answer at all about the drain plug, and how could I tell if there was oil in it? “Give it a try and see what happens.” Same advice that was given by my 8 year old grandson. The functionality of the compressor itself is great. It’s quiet and fills fast.

So Far So Good, Some Initial Quality Complaints.

Bought this compressor to replace my SpeedAire unit which is probably at least 30 years old. It came with the house when I bought it. The tank finally rusted out. This new DeWalt compressor is much much much more quiet than my old compressor and is portable because it has wheels, where my old unit did not. Fills up from zero to about 150 psi in around 6 minutes. So far very happy with it, but have only used it a couple of times as it is now winter and I don't do a lot of work in the cold temps. Only a few things to caution you about and this is why I knocked it down a couple of starts for quality. When I went to do the 30 minute break in procedure, I checked the oil level sight glass and could not see any indication of the oil level. I even rocked the unit back and forth trying to see the oil level, Did not know if it was shipped empty or over full to the point where the level was above the glass. Decided to open the drain plug and held a measuring cup under the opening. The drain plug was very hard to turn because of the amount of paint over the plug, but once I added an extension over my allen wrench I was able to break it loose. To my relief oil did came pouring out, but I found that it was actually 4 ounces over full from what the manual says is correct. Poured the correct amount of oil back in and then the level showed where it should have been, halfway up the sight glass. (Wife wasn't too happy that I used one of her measuring cups to check this by the way!). I then opened the tank drain plug to do the run in procedure and at least a quart of water came out all over my garage floor. Not sure why there would be that much water in a new compressor, but perhaps they do a run test at the factory which may have added condensation into the tank. This drain plug is very difficult to get to, so I suggest you add a drain plug extension hose to the bottom of the unit like I did. Under $20 and worth it. The only other thing I had to adjust was the positioning of the blow off valve. The opening of the valve was pointing straight up so that when the compressor reached full pressure it would briefly blow high pressure air straight up just as the compressor stopped running. Not safe in my opinion if you happened to be standing near the compressor when it finished filling. I cranked the valve around a quarter turn to direct the air stream to the side instead of up into my face. Will report back if anything changes once I start using it more. Like it so far.

Good Compressor

Excellent driver at delivery. Was in perfect condition. Plumbed a 1/4 inch tubing from bottom for ease of bleeding the tank. Had oil in it, so I ran the 30 minute break-in. Drained the oil and put Dewalt synthetic compressor oil back in it. Have not ran it a lot, but it looks like a good unit and running perfectly.

I Upgraded From A Small Over & Under Compressor To This
By Bill K.

I'm very pleased with this compressor. I use it to run a rivet gun for light assembly.....and it rarely needs to cycle. Our old compressor was a small over and under model, mostly used by carpenters or roofers to run nail guns. The old compressor cycled constantly, and the noise was very loud.
I'm in heaven with this new compressor, and I am happy I bought it.

Good Compressor

Just ran the compressor through its break in and played with it a bit. The good things I like about the compressor: I like it fills to 155 pounds and the volume it has. The gauges on top are easy to read and adjust pressure. It runs pretty quiet- I used to have a non-lubricated compressor before.
The only two issues I see so far with this compressor: 1. The rubber feet on the back of the compressor could be a little higher/thicker. The top of the compressor has some weight and it pushes down on them pretty hard.
2. The bleed valve in on the bottom. I tried reaching under without tilting it and there is no way. So with the weight at the top and trying to tilt it and unscrew the valve it is a little difficult. Would have been nice to leave it on the bottom of the tank but move it to one side for easier access.
Overall I am happy with it.

You might find one of our Drain Extension Kits to be helpful. In order to work effectively the valve has to be at the lowest point of the tank- but an extension will help you drain the tank with much less effort.

Shipped with oil?

This compressor had everything I wanted. My order arrived on time and in great shape. I read the manual and was ready for the break-in so I looked at the site glass and it was down 3/8 of an inch. I contacted ACDirect and they gave me the # to DeWalt.
Had a hard time trying to get someone to send me some oil since I can't drive.
I never did get any oil from them and I got my daughter from out of town to get me the correct type so I could finally break it in and use it. ACDirect did great but I'm very disappointed with DeWalt with not putting the right amount of oil in it!

Trying to decide between ingersoll rand p1.5iu-a9 I like the thick tank and wheels very sturdy looking.
Or the Chicago numatic rcp226vp for the higher 7.2 cfm but wheels and tank etc look cheap.
or the dewalt dxcmla1983054 30 gallon dual electric.
Bottom line is which is best made , longest lasting.and does the cfm really matter if the tank is holding roughfully 125lbs regardless. Maybe the slower or lower cfm is more reliable less performance= longer lasting?
