Electric vs. Gas
By Gary H.

The saw is easy to use, never a worry of starting as with a gas chain saw. It does have power, but I can not really say it is as powerful as my gas saw with the same size chain. To go out in the woods you really need 2 batteries which are not cheap. The other thing I noticed is the bar is not as stiff as the gas saws. It tend to wander when cutting firewood. Which is no big deal as I am not building furniture with it but just wonder how long it will last.

Great Chain Saw!

I had some concerns about a battery operated saw but they quickly vanished. I'm in my 60's and didn't want the continuing hassles of mixing gas, yanking a cord that might or might not start a chain saw, adjusting the idle, and finally, the excessive vibration found with a traditional saw. This has plenty of power with none of the issues I listed above. Is it for the professional? No, no doubt. But the battery stays charged for quite some time. I cut down a 14" tree and sawed it up and still had lots of charge left. Also, when you release the trigger, it is completely off--no idling and no battery drain. I also like that the battery is interchangeable with the Dewalt trimmer and the leaf blower.
Some have mentioned it is heavy. No more so than a comparable gas saw. As for chain adjustments, it is the easiest to tighten I have ever used ad have not had any issue with the chain bucking and coming off.. Bar oil---yes, I wish the oil chamber was bigger as it does go through oil pretty quickly. But mine oils properly with no issue. Just know your saw and add accordingly.
HIGHLY recommended.

Perfect for around the yard cleanup. Not as much power as a gas saw but cleaner and easier to use.

Did a great job of cutting some fire pit wood - went very quickly. Surprisingly, this is very quiet for a chain saw. I would definitely purchase this product again.

This Chainsaw Is Perfect

This chainsaw is ideal for medium jobs up to cutting up medium/large trees. It is quieter than a gas saw and quite as powerful as the 16" Stihl I had before. The really nice thing is you can sort branches, prepare, get a drink of water, etc. and just pick it up and go, even for a minute at a time! Trigger off and it is off! You use power only when you are cutting. The battery lasts a long time also. I love it.

Oiling System Broke, Otherwise Great Saw
By Peter K.

I bought this saw because of prior positive experience with Dewalt tools. The 40 volt actually has a larger battery (more cells) than the new Dewalt 60 volt chainsaw . I'm able to make approx 20 cuts of 14 inch diameter honey locust. Battery life was about 15 min of continuous cutting. Decent for a battery. The oil reservoir fill cap is recessed, which is bad, since debris gets inside. I prefer the the filler neck sticking out (like a plastic 2 liter soda bottle). I have 4 chainsaws, haven't lost a cap yet. It worked good until I noticed the chain wasn't being lubricated and after cutting, would leak heavily. The oil ended up in the inside of the saw instead of the bar and chain. Took it to the Dewalt service center for new one. The oiling system concerns me, otherwise the saw seems solid.

The DeWalt 40v Cordless Saw has been exceptional but the saw turned out being a little bigger than I expected, thus a little heavier.

I purchased the saw for Pops who is in his eighties and due to some shoulder arthritis has been having problems getting his gas saw started. He loves it - I doubt he will use his gas saw again.
The down side to this is my uncle, also in his eighties has tried out Pops' saw and also loves it. His birthday is Sat. so this has turned into an expensive proposition for me.
