Fine Saw !

I bought this Dolmar saw because I happen to know this company produces the Makita saw brand saws. Makita has a compression release while the Dolmar does not. I've been pleasantly surprised the Dolmar is easy to start and performs well!

Fine Saw !

Overall I like the saw; however owning several (made by Dolmar) Makita 20" saws, I prefer the earlier style which had a compression release. They require less pulling effort to start in any temperature. I'll live with this new spring assist start, but much prefer the compression release.
And for the record this new saw requires more pulling effort to start, especially when cold! Also the spike bar mounting on the Dolmar is a disadvantage to owner & user in my opinion!

Hard starting

For some reason it takes approximately 15 pulls to get saw started. When it does start it runs great. Any suggestions why it is tough to start?

Expert Response
I apologize for the difficulty you have experienced in starting the Dolmar chainsaw. This could be a result of an adjustment that needs to be made on the saw itself as typically these saws are one of the easier units to start. I would recommend reaching out to Dolmar's technical support at 770-569-4945 as they should be able to troubleshoot over the phone with you.
Once again, I do apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience and business. Have a great day!

Good saw so far

I read the instructions first and think that is a must. This is more than enough saw for any home owner. It starts and runs well and will cut anything up to 16" with out trouble. You will not be going into the timber business with any 20" saw but this saw will take care of any small to medium job you need it to. I can not speak to the life of this saw but care from one person to the next has a lot to do with that.

Nice Backup Saw
By Ben Herbst

Review Posted 09/17/2014
Nice solid smooth medium saw. Decent power, but I'd recommend the 60 cc version if this is going to be your main cutting saw.
It feels slightly heavy for a 50cc saw, but well balanced and smooth running. I have an old 60cc husky that is my main saw, and this is backup (but used a fair amount too). The husky kicks this thing's butt by a ways, but I'd imagine the 60cc Dolmar would be a fair match to the Husky.
High quality product. I'd recommend. I wish all the control (off switch) were the same, as the Dolmar is down, Stihl is up, Husky is sideways ... husky sideways switch is my preference. All seem to be good saws though.
