Horrible Experience

So I bought this generator, very excited too own a Generac as I’ve always heard it was a good company. Well unfortunately this was not what I got, I got a GP15000E and first thing I noticed about a month into running it, it likes to rev the engine over and over. Then the gas tank started to blow up like a balloon then it would shut down and stop running. I then would have to open the gas cap and let all the hot fumes out of the tank. Thank goodness it shut down because if that tank was too burst I could only imagine what would happen to all the fuel on the hot generator.
So I call them to get it serviced, well they gave me the info I needed to get it worked on and come to find out there warranty company does not work on portable generators, so then, after some time I call them again, now they want me too drive 4hours to one of there facilities to get it fixed, mind you this runs my business and can’t be down for long as it is my bread and butter for my family of 7. They refuse to give me a loner and will probably have it for a week+. It is really sad that’s how they run there operation, because I am loyal and will probably never spend my hard earned money with this company again.

Very sorry to hear you're experiencing problems with you generator. Generac requires portable generators to be taken into a servicing dealer for warranty work. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Awesome

The very day I "live tested" the generator, we had a 12 hour power outage due to a severe thunderstorm. I only ran the generator for 1.5 hours, but it performed flawlessly! The only issue I had was putting oil in the generator. Do NOT go by the instructions unless they have been modified. Make sure the dipstick is all you use to check the oil and check it often while adding. I put in the "required" amount and had to take quite a bit back out. I suspect the delivered generator had more in it than stated when shipped. Other than that, I am perfectly happy with it. I definitely recommend the generator (and the seller!) :-)

Generac GP15000E Review

It took a while to get the gen set. Was easy to assemble, instructions were good. Haven't had a long run on the unit yet. I installed a transfer switch on my house and ran the unit with lights, frig and one central AC unit running and generator never skipped a beat. We are in Hurricane season now and know I wont be without power now if something should happen to the power grid.

Generac GP15000E - 15,000 Watt Electric Start Portable Generator

I hooked this up to my RV and the unit ran great. The only reason for the 3 stars on performance is that after getting the generator put together and running it for over two hours I have not been able to get the battery to charge and restart the generator. I understand that sometimes after sitting it drains the battery but it should have taken a charge after two hours on the charger that was included.

This Generator Saved Us During The Great Texas Freeze Of 2021
By Rob T.
Houston, Texas
Review Posted 02/21/2021
I bought this generator for hurricane season down in Texas, never imagined I would use it during the Winter. After the ERCOT grid failed in February 2021 I ran this for about 70 hours without a hitch. This generator powered a 3100 square foot house including two furnaces/air handlers, two refrigerators, lights, coffee maker, toaster oven, flat screen TV, etc. This was connected to the house via a Siemens 50 amp manual transfer switch. The generator never broke a sweat while in use. I would get about 10 hours run time on a full tank of gas. I highly recommend this unit.

Cranked right up with no hesitation. Super easy to access all of the maintenance points. Not nearly as loud as I
thought it would be. Great price fit the amount of power it produces. Does like gas.

Could Be More Reliable

When runs does a good job. In 30 hours of service I have had to get repaired twice, currently needs that second repair. Suspect better generators for money, difficult to get serviced locally, those listed by manufacturer take weeks to evaluate, some complain of difficulty getting replacement parts from manufacturer.

I was interested in buying the Generac GP17500E. I did my homework and believe it is the one for me. The questions I have are:
1. Can I convert it to propane?
2. How long will a 15lb propane tank last on this generator if I'm not powering the whole house and just the bare necessities?
Thank you Ryan

Mike, it appears the GP15000E generac portable has two plugs one for 120/240 30 amp. and one 50 amp 120/240. That being the case, can one install two inlet boxes and two manual transfers switches, one at 30 amps and one at 50 amps, and wire them up that way. Since it is one power source should not be an issue of cycles being different as power is from one source

I have the GP15000E but plan to purchase a larger automatic standby generator. Currently only have a 30 AMP inlet installed--so not using all power. Can I install a transfer box (100A or 200A) and a 50 AMP inlet box to use the current generator and still use the transfer box when we install the larger automatic generator? If so, what do you recommend?

Hey Jim, I have the GP17500. How do you charge the battery? In the package there is a 12v start cable. Does this hook up to a trickle charger or is some way else to charge the batt when not in use?

We have a 200 AMP service and would like to use the 100 AMP manual transfer switch.
Does the 100 AMP switch work the same way as the Kit50-25SB?
Is the reason for the price difference the circuit breakers for the 100 AMP switch?

I just received the generator I purchased from you (Generac GP5500 - 5500 Watt Portable Generator) and it comes with a bottle of oil. It does not say on the bottle what type it is. 30 weight or 10w30? Do you know so that it is the proper oil to use for the current temperature.

Jim, the GP15000E has one 50 amp 240v outlet. Assuming I can only use one outlet to feed into the connection box on the outside of my house, how much 120v current can I expect to have at my breaker box?
