The inner connection (water outflow) requires a 1/2" male threaded insert and comes with a 1/2" male to 3/8" female adaptor, to which you can connect a 3/8" male - 3/8" quick-connect connector. Nobody anywhere makes a 1/2" male - 3/8" quick-connect connector, so the two-part set-up is the only way it works. But because of the angle of the outflow connection and the stiffener on the end of every hose, the stack-up of adaptor/connector/hose does not fit into the inner opening of the reel without creating significant stress on the hose or entire connection.
Also, rust started to appear in a couple of spots almost immediately.
