For anyone who is getting older and just has trees to trim, this is a great product. Reliable, lightweight, and easy to use. The chain will come off the bar cutting small branches if you are not careful, but it is easy to put back on. This is a great product. If you are doing one to two-inch cuts it will cut hundreds of times on one battery charge.
Ya can't go wrong with this. Order it and you won't be sorry!

80 Volt Cordless, Brushless Chain Saw

Be mindful! Do NOT use in the rain or get it wet. I have log for years. I am a forester-retired. It is a treat not to have to mix gas. It has good power and cutting speed. I use to be thankful during the summer with the fumes of my gas saws keeping the bugs away but no more.
It is light weight and easy to handle and cuts fast. It also charges fast as well. While taking a break in the house I can go out and trim my over grown white cedar trees some more. I also removed two large apple trees that were to close to the house. Felling was easy. Once down the trees were limbed and bucket up just as fast as any chain saw I have ever used for that purpose. Did I mention how nice it is not to hear the saw? Or smell nothing but the wood coming out fresh. Love that smell. Thanks!

This chain saw is the easiest tool I have ever used! and it makes short work cleaning out under brush and medium size trees. I will never use a gas chain saw again.. I wore out before it did!

Very good middle-of-the-road E-saw

18" bar is over-kill for a low-powered saw. I installed a 16" bar and fitted two Carleton chains. In heavy, semi-abusive bucking the full length of the bar, the motor has to work harder and it drains the batt. in 15 min. or about 3 cuts thru 20+ inch pine.
Yesterday helping build a log cabin and woodshed I ran the GW 80 volt to trim boards and do light limbing and bucking small dia. stuff about the dia. of a husky man's upper arm and the battery was not quite "flat" when I quit in the late afternoon.
I used my Husky 562 w/ 3/8" full skip for the bucking bigger logs and cutting off stumps and saved to lighter, easier to start-stop-start-stop E-saw just for what it is best at.
You don't have alot of chain-speed compared to a hot gas saw, but you don't burn bars and dull chains nearly as quick, and while the oiler is perfectly adequate, you use hardly any bar oil. (I am used to filling bar oil w/each tank of gas as well as giving each tooth 3 or 4 strokes with the saw file even if they seem to "no need it". :-)
If/when I am laid-up with a sprung back or recovering from ortho-surgeries (I'me pushing 70), or out of town and we have a windstorm that takes trees down in the road out to the county road, my wife COULD use the E-saw to clear the usual stuff that gets blown down or snowload tips over in the winter...(No WAY could most women run a 60cc or bigger gas saw, or even start the thing. It would be very irresponsible to expect them to even try....)
I am very pleased with my E-saw and plan to get another battery for it.
Husky & Stihl both offer a battery-powered E-saw now, but they are around $200+ more expensive, and their batteries may be even more pricey than the GW 2Ah (aprox. $200) and 4Ah. ($300) batteries.(?) I'd expect Husky to have higher chain-speed and both H. & S. saws to have slightly more "solid" feeling machines.
I am going to try a top handle saw soon since I need shoulder replacement and I think a top-handle saw will be easier to run after surgeries.
It would be great if Greenworks (as well as H. & S. -) , would offer a portable drill using the same battery, and a charger that would run off of the cigar lighter in your truck/atv/orv.

80 Volt _E-chainsaw NOT a home-owner "toy"...
By Dave O.
Republic, Washington
Purchased 09/01/2015 |
Review Posted 09/29/2015
I got my E-saw because an old rancher/logger/moonshiner in his 80's (even older than myself!) got one and is delighted with it, other-wise I would have never considered an E-saw.
1st thing I did was swap the 18" bar for a 16" one since shorter bars/less chain means you can pull more aggressive chain.
The spikes on the "dog" are dull and need to be sharpened.
I like the saw so much I am going to buy a 4Ah battery for it! Chain-speed is slower than my gas saws, but it cuts much faster than a handsaw and does so for 1/2 to 3/4 hour on the 2Ah battery (which recharges in approximately the same amount of time). Possibly due to lower chain speed, the bar oil lasts a long time while still getting an adequate amount on the bar & chain.
There is no way my wife or daughter could even start my pro Huskys, much less run one safely, but the E-saw could be used by a lady just fine. This is a great feature in case I am away, or laid-up after surgeries that are over-due, and we get a bad windstorm or the snow load takes down some trees on the road.
It is great to be able to push a button and pull the trigger to start cutting instead of fighting a pull-start. Almost no noise is a blessing as well.
The chain stops spinning as soon as you let go of the trigger, almost like you hit the chain-brake. You can carry it in an enclosed cab w/o inhaling gas vapors.
Not recommended, but you CAN run the saw one handed at arm's length if you have to :-)
Here's hoping Green works makes an electric drill, impact driver that use the same battery and that they offer a charger that will charge from 12-volt cigarette lighter :-)

80 Volt saw

Saw works well, especially at altitude where gas saws are even more picky about running. Good saw in the trees as well, no more yanking on the cord 100 foot up, a bit heavy though. Pleasurably quiet compared to a gas saw.
On the other hand the chain adjuster is over engineered junk. Wouldn't work out of the box. Greenworks folks were less than helpful and somewhat insulting when called. I am not new to the chainsaw world! Pried the offending masterpiece from the saw and threw in the junk drawer, most saws can be adjusted without .
All considered a good saw!

It's a real chainsaw, not a toy

Compared to the other battery operated saws on the market, this feels and acts like comparable saws in use. I did change out the bar to a Sandvik bar I had with a Stihl chain because it's more heavy duty.
We live in the forest of the Ozarks, so this is an essential tool. Love it. We've been telling everyone about it no more pulling to start, so much safer and easier to use.

It is great not to have to pull start a noisy chainsaw. It is great for small stuff like cutting brush the blade cuts really fast. It switches off by its self often to soon. It does not last long when cutting big stuff. That is when the gas powered saw is better. I am very pleased with it for working with small branches when you stop start a lot.
