Excellent Mower
By Harlan C.
Washington
Purchased 06/02/2023 |
Review Posted 07/17/2023
I have a lot of good things to say about this. It starts easily. It does a great job, it's not heavy. It is quality. It does exactly what I hoped it would. The adjustable handle is very easy to use. However, that is one of the drawbacks that I see on this mower for someone that is over 6 feet tall the handle does not come up high enough to be comfortable, close but not perfect.

So Far So Great !

Shipped and delivered ahead of scheduled time frame. One pull started up purring. The only " negative " is the adjustable speed range seems fit for world class sprinters. Lowest setting is used by me unless you want to jog behind it. Otherwise 100% satisfied!

This is the best lawn mower I ever purchased. It is expensive but worth every penny. Most important, it has the power to cut high grass without cutting it out. Strongly recommend.

Great Mower, Except For Unnecessary Clip Director
By Kyle K.
New Jersey
Purchased 05/12/2023 |
Review Posted 07/03/2023
I have been using a mulching mower for the past 30 years. Primarily because of the positive long-term health and appearance of my lawn, as well as the convenience of non-stop mowing. I started out with a Snapper equipped with a mulching blade and deck insert that lasted 25 years and performed flawlessly. It produced mulch close to sawdust, and I always had the best lawn on the street. 5 years ago I replaced it with a Toro Recycler, which I found out the hard way is not really a mulcher because in recycler mode it just throws the cut grass/thatch back into the lawn. And as a result, my lawn has suffered.
Since PED no longer sells the Snapper Ninja, I decided to move on to this Honda HRX because I had heard so many good things about them. As usual, PED provided all the pre-sale resources I needed to finalize my decision, delivery was quick, and it arrived in perfect condition. I was very impressed with the build quality, engine, etc. From top-to-bottom it’s a much better mower than the Toro, and well worth the extra cost. However, I’m disappointed in the Clip Director feature, which controls the discharge door that directs the clippings to either the bag when fully open, or directly into the ground as mulch when closed. It has 10 different settings, you can opt for 8 partial closing of the door to give various mixes of mulch/bagged grass. I prefer a full mulch, and set it so that the sliding discharge door is fully closed. But it does not fully close, there is a gap that a lot of grass gets through due to the pressure from the force of the spinning blades and possibly the flexibility of the plastic sliding door. For the first 10-20 minutes of cutting, I have a constant stream of mulched grass flowing out the back from under the discharge guard that requires raking afterward. Eventually, that gap clogs with mulch clippings and for the remainder of the cut, it acts like it should. I always thoroughly clean my mower after every use. And when I open up the rear discharge guard the entire inside cavity of the mower above the deck is stuffed solid with mulched grass. Enough to fill a 2.5 gallon bucket. I’ll be doing the 5hr. oil change after my next cut. I will try and see if I can address the problem with some weather stripping along the edge of the sliding door. Unfortunately, Clip Director is another example of over-engineering. They should have given 2 options - open, or solid closed.

Great mower!! Easy to use In lots of ways. Easy start! Wheel height is simple to adjust but the best thing is the speed adjustment. You can take a leisurely walk behind the mower OR get your run in behind the mower. Speed adjustment is worth the price.

Excellent Mower
By Gerald P.

Review Posted 06/22/2023
The mower has plenty of power to mulch. It mulches so well that I can hardly see the mulched grass. When I used a bag I was able to go further because the mower chopped the grass finer than any other mower I have owned. Because the deck is lighter the mower is lighter and easier to maneuver. With the large wheels the mower cuts the lawn evenly.

I really like this mower, it does a great job grass looks better than ever. My only concern is I have an odd shaped lawn that force's me to have to back up a lot and the mower is hard to back up, I believe that is caused by the rear drive system.
