This is an awesome unit from US manufacturer Ingersoll Rand. It is portable, but you'll need some muscle to get the 200 pounds moving in the right direction. That weight translates into durability, so it's a good thing. The cast iron pump is designed for small shops and serious do-it-yourselfers who need a continuous-duty compressor that can still run on household current.

The single phase, 115V motor will need to be on a 16 amp circuit, but no special plugs or wiring are needed. This compressor is UL, CSA, and ASME certified, full pressure tested at the factory before shipment, and carries a 1-year consumer use warranty through Ingersoll Rand's national network.

Equipped with pressure switch, pressure gauge, regulator, safety valve, and a six-foot power cord this unit has everything you need for home projects to on the go sites.

10 Years And Counting
By Chuck V

Review Posted 09/14/2022
I've had a Garage Mate compressor for 10 years now. It gets used often, but not in daily service (I'm a weekend warrior). It is surprisingly heavy, but the wheels make it easy to drag it around. Able to run a cheap HVLP gun with it just fine, all of my nailers and other air tools. The only thing I couldn't run was a sandblaster, just doesn't have the CFM for that.

It was everything it was advertised to be. Belt guard was damaged. Local vender is working on getting it replaced. As for the Air Filters - the IR part doesn't appear to be any good. I see there was a question below on this topic. Try PUMA or Senco 2142013

Got it damaged. Motor electrical box was caved in. Made lots of mechanical adjustments to belt cage components. Was making rubbing noises when turned on the first time. Pumps up good.

review 4 image 1
I needed a capable, reliable compressor for my business but shop space is tight. This compressor was the perfect solution. At 5CFM and rated for continuous duty, it supplies ample air for tools and general use. And as compressors go, it is quiet! The build quality is outstanding, typical of US craftsmanship and Ingersoll Rand products, and it was well packaged. Startup was a piece of cake, and the compressor pumped up quickly with no leaks. It runs great and sounds terrific. While the delivery was pushed back a few times, that can be expected these days. Air Compressors Direct kept me well informed and their customer service reps are helpful and knowledgeable. Dayton Shipping and it’s local partner A. Duie Pyle were right on time and tracking was easy. So I’m glad I waited.. this compressor was well worth it.

The only major drawback to this unit is the belt drive....IR scrimped by using a V-belt instead of a flat cog belt...V- belts need more attention, other than that it's a good unit...I have a Larger IR unit in my shop its been great for 10 years!! Flat belt...never touched it so far.

It's What A Small Compressor Should Be
By Todd A.
Reno, Nevada
Purchased 04/30/2017 |
Review Posted 05/25/2017
It's an industrial style compressor in a compact, small garage size.

The only annoyance I had was that it came with pneumatic tires that instruct you not to fill with compressed air. You have to use a bike pump? I find that very ironic and of the logic you would get from a foreign countries product of say Asian manufacture. Should come with flat-free tires if you can't use the air compressor to self inflate. I wonder if IR employees find that amusing?

Anyway, other than that it seemed of good sturdy quality and held air very well. I would always want the bigger compressor but needed to fill a small space which it does very well. One more irony is that you can't lift by the mobility handle such as going up a stepped incline. Well how else would you move it reasonably? Through bolts will solve the problem. I will probably put bolts through the handle one day and change out tires to flat-free and all will be well.

I gave it the good rating because it deserved that and I think most people won't be bothered by what bothered me. It has the IR name and hopefully will outlast me. Good luck with your purchase.

Thank you for your kind words- but a 1 star rating is the worst; 5 stars is the best... We aren't allowed to tamper with customer's ratings, but I'm glad you took the time to explain.

Worry About Warranty
By Don C.
Dearborn Heights, Michigan
Review Posted 09/19/2016
I purchased similar unit several years ago from a big box. Immediately aware of a leak at a weld in tank. Tried to return to store but was told all warranty was through vendor - they would have exchanged if they had a unit in stock they said but item was discontinued and discounted.

Contacted IR and was told I needed to ship to out of state site for repair - told them that was cost prohibitive but they were firm that nothing would be done unless I shipped it to them. I welded and repaired site but new leaks immediately occurred elsewhere on seam. Finally transferred compressor to old Craftsman tank.

Ingersoll Rand's Factory Warranty on this unit covers defects in materials & workmanship for 1 year- so that sounds like your situation. You could also use Ingersoll Rand's Service Locator to find the closest locations to your zip code; they are showing 2 in your area (Livonia & Rockwood).

The terms of most Factory Warranties will say that if you alter the unit you void the warranty- I'm sorry, but trying the repair yourself has probably done that, so using another air receiver was probably the next-best solution.

Great Air Compressor
By Steven A.

Purchased 09/16/2015 |
Review Posted 10/16/2015
I never owned an air compressor prior to this one but I did a lot of research and decided on the P1.5IU-A9. The best price when compared to other similar models, same size capacity and same size HP, was at Air Compressors Direct.

I found the same model on another website that was on sale- but when the tax and shipping was added cost more than the regular price at Air Compressors Direct, which does not charge taxes or delivery. So I purchased it from here.

The compressor has worked great so far. The instructions were easy to understand and started it up after about five minutes of prep. It seems to be fairly quiet based on other reviews I have read. I have used it with a few nail guns and has worked with no issues at all.

I don't plan on using it to paint with or to build cars, just around the house type of "stuff". It seems to be well built and extremely sturdy. My only problem/complaint is not about the product, its about the delivery. AVERITT EXPRESS was the delivery service. I provided my cell phone number and they were supposed to have contacted me by phone to make delivery arrangements, which never happened.

Instead I get a text from my neighbor who advised me that the air compressor had just been delivered. He helped the driver with delivery. The driver advised my neighbor that there was no contact number. I rechecked my order and my cell phone was right there in the line which asks for a phone number.

Anyway no problem with the compressor or the service at Air Compressors Direct, there is room for improvement in the delivery of the product.

We will work with the folks at Averitt Express to improve service in your area- you should have gotten a call from their dispatch office to set up a time and day for the delivery.

I'm glad you had a friendly neighbor to help out! We appreciate your business, and apologize for any inconvenience.

Have not received the compressor

Freight company showed up with the compressor which was damaged. Call ACD and was re-ordered. I have not seen the compressor yet and when I called they had no info on the compressor. I have no shipping notice and no support. If I do not receive it in another week. I will cancel the order. Air Compressors Direct is not a good company.

Is there any place to find replacement air filters. IR product number in the owners Manuel is wrong. I've tried using product dimensions via silvery. It seems like there isn't anyone that can give you a part number. Thank you for your help. It's hard to believe the owners Manuel part numbers don't exist.

We are requiring air compressor with 2.5 cfm @101 psi so we bumped up our requirement to 5 cfm and 150 psi. Our querry is whether this is a good option to go with it.
