Ingersoll Rand has been building reliable air compressors for 100 years and this built in the USA unit is no exception.

A 100% duty cycle meets the needs of both professionals and dedicated do-it-yourselfers. The cast iron cylinders and frame are precision engineered to Ingersoll Rand's exacting standards so your investment works for you year after year.

The SS5L5 unit puts out 18.1 CFM at 90 PSI, so it will run a wide variety of pro-grade tools like air hammers and metal cutters.

Don't forget to grab a start-up kit for this compressor. Since Ingersoll Rand piston compressors ship dry you will need their All-Select lubricant to get this up and running. With this add-on, Ingersoll will extend your pump warranty by an additional year.

Good Unit But Not Perfect
By Keith J.
Grand Island, New York
Review Posted 04/19/2022
I bought this because of the air volume at 125 PSI. Yes it does make a lot of air and for a single guy in the shop using air tools it's the best bang for your buck IMO BUT, I have had to replace the head gasket. It was under warranty and Ingersoll rand service came to my home to fix it. The tech said it's a common problem - the gasket blows out between the cylinders. To reduce the chance of it happening again, he prick punched 5 marks at the narrow point between the cylinders to help keep the gasket from moving. NO problems since with the head gasket. After about 10 years of use the valve assembly crapped out. Replaced then and no problems since. Finally, after about 13 years of use, the pressure switch quit working. It's not exactly what I had hoped for but it's still a good value. Even my 15HP commercial Qunicy compressor at work has needed a rebuild and I thought those were the very best you could buy.

I've only had this Compressor for a short time, But it's doing a great job, builds pressure fast, no leaks, and for what it is pretty quiet.

Unhappy

When my unit was about 2 years old the pressure valve went to hell, now about 1 1/2 years later it's going bad again. Other than this problem the unit has worked well.

You would think they would come up with a better pressure valve with others having similar problems. The pressure valves aren't cheap. I bought my compressor at a chain store.

Bought mine 4 years ago from a chain store. I got it because of the high CFM at 90 psi. I didn't want to spend more money for a two stage with less CFM.

Once the air in your tank is gone, CFM is everything. Works great for my bead blaster. I don't think anything is going to tax an air compressor more than a sand or bead blaster.

Poor Quality

I bought this compressor based on good reviews and the Ingersoll Rand name. The pump lasted 22 months of light residential use.

Now I look around and the reviews are terrible. Many problems with the pumps. Mine is still under warranty and Ingersoll Rand is supposed to be sending me a new pump. Wonder how long this one will last. I would not buy Ingersoll Rand again.

I bought it 3 years ago and because of work I did not get it wired up until last year. When I first turned it on, it did not run until I flipped the pressure switch several times.

I pumped up 6 lawn mower tires and recently tried to use an HVLP sprayer to paint a truck frame when the pump started making a loud knocking noise and tripped the breaker- and yes the oil level was fine.

The head gasket is blown out and Ingersoll said it is out of warranty. If you want a compressor to last more than 2 hours of run time do not buy an Ingersoll.

Factory Warranties start when the unit is delivered, not when you start using them. It is always in the customer's best interest to check out a new unit thoroughly right at the start to get the best service.

Letting a unit sit for years without being used can result in corrosion on the connectors and dry rot in the gaskets and o-rings.

I bought mine several years ago. It ran great for about 2 months and then I had to replace the pump, a year later a new pressure switch, next year another pressure switch, and now the pump is making noise again.

The pressure release valve also went bad after 2 years. I have had mine for only 4 years, and I am not happy with it at all. The only good thing on it is the motor.

This unit has a 1 year Factory Warranty, so the initial repairs would have been covered as long as they were the result of a defect in materials or workmanship.

If the failure is from improper installation or not doing the recommended maintenance at the correct intervals, then the warranty would not cover the repair, and the problems will continue.

You may want to give the folks at Ingersoll Rand a call, toll free, at (800) 866-5457 for their advice on getting the best performance from your air compressor.

Disappointed to say the least
By Allen

For as long as I can remember Ingersoll Rand was the "good stuff". " You want high quality, you get Ingersoll Rand".

I ordered my SS5L5 3 years ago and paid a little extra for the start up kit that added a year to the 1 year warranty. It worked like a champ until the last couple weeks. Then the pump starts knocking and trips the breaker. I never ran it very hard or long and kept the oil and filter changed, but now the pump is shot.

I replaced a 20 year old Campbell Hausfield unit with this one and now wish I hadn't. This one was much more powerful, but 3 years- c'mon!

I haven't talked to anyone about a replacement pump yet but it's not gonna be cheap. I'm very disappointed and plan to relate my experience to all the guys I work with at Michelin Tire (37 years).

No more Ingersoll Rand for me.

Product Questions Answered by Melissa, the Air Compressor Expert
How many amps does the SS5L5 pull?

Hi Steve, looking at the IR SS5L5 single stage and the Quincy 2V41C60VC two stage. Wanting to run a plasma cutter and a sand blaster and not sure which would be better. The IR produces more CFM but the Quincy has higher maximum PSI. Also want to run various air tools in my shop. What are the pros and cons for single vs two stage? Which would you suggest for my needs? Thanks
