So far, runs great. I like the idea that (as told to me by Electric Generators Direct) that this unit may also perform as a stand-alone generator, i.e. not merely as a back-up to a utility-powered home. I'm very suspicious of home backup generators in general, since for 12 years I had problems every year with my previous generator (not a Kohler). So, I'll be patient with this unit and see how it performs over time.

Kohler 14RCA A Good Generator

Although overall the 14RCA is a very good generator, In my opinion, there are a couple of things that could be improved.
1) to drain the oil, first the 2 end panels must be removed before the front panel can be removed.
2) no indication of a fault is displayed after the generator shuts down. To clear the hidden fault, both DC and AC power must be removed and then reapplied causing a power on restart of the controller.

This is the worst investment I made since may years. The generator does not provide stable output. If I use more than 2 KW voltage and frequency are seriously fluctuating. Kohler does not respond to service, help or warranty requests at all. This is a nightmare like a very bad horror b movie. Don't spend your hard earned money for this generator and do not believe 5 star reviews.

The Generator has performed a first successful exercise today 2-6-2023 started and exercised smoothly all on its own. Have not required backup as of this date but expect it to be satisfactorily.

The Kohler generator and transfer switch are the quality that you would expect from Kohler. Excellent quality and performance. I have over 25 years experience with Kohler generators and switches and this is the smallest I’ve worked with and installed. I only thing I would have to say about the purchase is a E-Check is interesting. The money was taken out of the account the next day but wouldn’t ship for 5 days unlike a credit card purchase that would ship the next day. Company policy. I think that needs to be looked into. Not right. People were very helpful and knowledgeable.
