Seems like old school technology with having to run line voltage for battery charger along with the control wiring and the activation is more difficult for a normal person to do as compared to the Generac models . Overall a quiet good running unit just the installation as compared to Generac is the difference.

Old fat woman (lol) not having to get up in the night nor a storm. It does it's thing and I don't have to worry about it. We live on the last grid to get turned on. So, it has come in handy, 4 times since the freeze in Feb.

I have had this generator for five years. Last fall the onboard square D breaker failed and the electrical contractor replaced it the day after it went bad. Because of Covid many Square D products were difficult to obtain as many are manufactured in Mexico. My contractor called the company and expedited the order. It was also the first one he ever replaced after being in business for several years. It is not the same kind you will find at the big box stores because the connections are different. This was the only problem I experienced and was handled well. You may want to ask your installer if he keeps parts on hand-just in case.
You also may want to see if your contractor has a service policy that does the routine one year maintenance-check battery, change plugs, oil and filter and air filter and enter any updates into the system. You also get a discount on parts and labor should you need any and preferential treatment with such a policy.

Who would have known that my electrician gave the best advice to buy your product. It came in extra early for him to set up. JUST in time for this winter mess, YUK!!
Right now still learning how to shut off for cool down. Strongly recommend having it set up to I phone.. I still don't know how to use the phone yet (reason for not having it programmed to phone)
But electrician called right before the lights went out and made sure it has ran its safe cycle. And that it cut on when the lights went off.

We’ve yet to install our generator, but our electrician is happy with our selection. Just moved to Lake Arrowhead, CA full time and knew a generator would give us peace of mind.

Well worth it for the peace of mind it gives me and my wife, both seniors. Love the automatic transfer switch so it works wether we're home or away. Had ours for 6 years, never failed. Be advised, our cost of installation inc. electrician, plumber for gas line, inspections, cement pad, cost of moving it to the pad, etc. was as much as the gen. itself. In our experience the unit will go through two 100 gal. propane tanks in 5 days +/- depending on load. Would recommend nat. gas if possible. Our cost is around $600/year for propane plus $300/year for maintenance (oil change, comp. upgrades, etc.) Having a whole house backup generator definitely adds to our home's value and ability to age in place safely and securely.

You will have to replace it after the warranty is up. Parts are so expensive it just doesn’t make sense to repair . Only got 100 hours before repairs forced me to replace with another brand.

My Kohler SGM329WKD 14RESA has been in service 3yrs and 5 months. It has not failed me in a power failure during that time. Except very recently the generator failed to start for the weekly excercise running period.
After an inspection I initiated, it was found the the starter battery had the top blown off. The battery was a sealed type battery that fluid could never be checked or added.
After further investigation it was found to be over charging the battery...charge rate was 14.5 volts and the spec is 13.5 +.2 and -.2volts. This constant overcharging of the battery destroyed the battery. Come to find out Kohler has a fix for the problem...installation of a diode kit to reduce the charging voltage to the proper voltage of 13.5 volts.
Unfortunately Kohler sent the service bulletins to the sales and service centers but not the registered owners. After several emails back to Kohler about my issue their response was 3yrs. & 5 months is very good life for the 12 volt starter battery?? That was not the answer I had hoped for from Kohler factory service tech support.

Our Kohler 14KW Standby Generator was recently installed at our second home at the beach. We always worried about losing electricity, but now we don't have to. What a relaxed feeling we have. The most important part about the installation was it was easily installed by our electrician, and our neighbors were surprised when we told them we had installed the generator a few weeks ago. Apparently nobody around us is bothered by the operation of the unit. It is like a muffled lawn mover. This is a product that I hope we use sparingly, but it is quite comforting to know its there when we need it.
