We compacted the soil, then 3" of small gravel, then leveled with sand under this base. It is solid and predrilled and tapped for mounting bolts. Much easier to install than pouring pad, drilling anchors, etc.

I ordered a Kohler 26RCA(L) generator and the composite concrete mounting pad at the same time. Once the concrete pad was in place, I set the generator on the pad and attempted to thread the included bolts into the mounting nuts in the pad. Unfortunately, the mounting nuts in the pad were not perfectly placed and I had to deform the generator base (twisted one corner up) in order to get all 4 bolts started. The generator is not yet in service so I don't know what the long-term consequences of this induced stress will be on the pad.

The precast concrete pad comes with integrated cast-in SS threaded inserts to secure the generator to this pad. The inserts provided on the pad I received were not even close to the pattern required for the Kohler 14kW RCAL or anything like the pattern shown in the picture(s). Of course, this condition was not evident until AFTER the pad is set and AFTER the generator was set onto the pad! No problem, (right?), easy fix to drill some holes in the concrete pad at the correct locations and set some nice Hilti concrete epoxy anchors. I was WRONG, the pad surface is only about 1/4" thick at the required anchor points with a Styrofoam hollow core underneath so not good for anchorage. Time for some ugly home-made brackets to secure my nice new generator this hollow concrete pad.

Very sorry you experienced issues with your pad. You may want to check that the right pad was received. In most instances, when there are issues installing the pad, the pad needs to be turned 180 degrees. Here's the Kohler Pad Spec Sheet.

So I didn’t realize exactly how this is made otherwise I wouldn’t have purchased it. It’s basically a foam rectangle with cement on the outside.
