Finished Basement
By Kurt P

Purchased 11/14/2023 |
Review Posted 01/21/2024
We have a finished basement in Seattle that utilizes a sump pump. This unit was a good replacement but my only issue was that I have an 11” hole in the concrete and this pump fits best in a 5 galling bucket which is 12” in diameter. The extra diameter is for the output fitting on the base of the pump.
I was able to fit it into the 10” bucket by cutting the edge away so the output fitting stuck out the side. Wish they gave detailed measurements for the base.
Still had good clearance for the float and I’m happy with this pump. I like that it has an aluminum motor housing, compact and looks like a well built product.

I installed Liberty Sump Pump VMF-237 on 6-13-1995 and it has worked since than without any problems. It is quiet. One has to be within feet to hear it humm when on. I paid $$105 for it. Still working flawlessly every day.

Well Designed and Well Made

I am using two of these pumps to lift ground and downspout water to curb level. The pumps operate in 12 inch square sumps. Previous pumps required attached sacrificial anodes to avoid corrosion. These pumps do not seem to be effected by the high mineral content ground water. The pumps are beautifully made and high quality.

This is a very well built quiet sump pump. I really liked its small form factor including the problem free vertical float. I had a situation where the largest pump I could use had to fit in a five gallon plastic bucket. Flawless.

Powerful Well-Made Pump

Powerful well-made pump. The only issue is that sometimes the float needs a slight push to loosen the slide if it's been dry for a long stretch. Makes the old pump look like a toy.

Magnetic Float Switch Sticks
By Dave H.
Clay, New York
Review Posted 11/07/2017
We had 4-5 inches of rain in 2 days, the first I have ever seen water spots in hairline cracks in basement floor (house is 5 years old) The sump well was full and the ground water table was causing a strong flow into the well. When I checked the pump, it was not working as the float switch had not activated the pump. I am not sure what causes the float switch to stick but once jostled, the pump kicked on. Within 1 hour, the sump was cleared and the pump switched off. Is there some periodic maintenance required?.

From the owner's manual..."Pump should be checked frequently for debris and/or build up which may interfere with pump or float switch operation. The float must be able to move freely through its complete travel without any restrictions.
Pour enough water into the sump to activate the pump periodically (at least every 3 months) when not normally in use to verify proper function.Check periodically to make sure the pit is free from accumulated debris, rocks or other objects that may potentially jam the pump."

Fine Pump...Short Life Span?
By Alan W.

Review Posted 04/26/2017
This is my third model 237 in five years. Although it works well and appears to be well built, the past two have stopped working after less than two years. I have lived in my current residence for over 30 years and prior (standing) sump pimps have lasted 10+ years. Why does the Liberty give out so soon?

Expert Response
Very sorry to hear about the luck you're having with this pump. We have never experienced any issues regarding model #237. The solid content in the ground water may be causing the issues. This pump will pass solids up to .375-Inch, however small solids can cause damage overtime if the solid content in the water is high. Also the mineral content of the ground water being pump can cause a sediment/corrosion build-up that can decrease the life span of the pump.

I purchased this as a backup to my 12 year old Liberty 237 pump that has preformed flawlessly. I was pleased to see that it is essentially the same pump as the 12 year old model. Very pleased with the longevity of the pump.
