Liberty Pump 283

You can’t go wrong with this pump. I have a brand loyalty with Liberty. They are extremely well built and perform flawlessly. I gave it one Con for weight, which is really not a con. They are just a very heavy and well-made pump.

Pump curve says it will pump to 40 foot head - it gives 3 1/2 gallons per minute at 30 ft head, 300 ft pipe. Not bad for the price

The Perfect Pump For Extreme Water Situations
By Bryth H.

This is a rock solid pump. We compared different manufacturers for 2 months before settling on the Liberty Pump. This is a powerful pump and the amperage is low. The half horsepower does the job for an extremely high water table.

Original Pump Lasted 12 Years
By Sara M.
Pacific, Missouri
Purchased 02/03/2018 |
Review Posted 02/26/2018
Had this same make and model pump for 12 yrs before I had to replace. With an average of 100 gallons a day that it had to pump uphill to a splitter box in the drainfield, I'm happy with how long it lasted, maybe it would have lasted longer without the uphill resistance? Who knows.

Great Product

Moved into a house that had a recently installed Liberty 1/4 horse (247 VMF) in the sump well with an old battery backup. Performed well but was way undersized as evidenced by 100% duty cycle for 48 straight hours during a very wet June 2015. At 10 feet of head that is approximately 25 GPM sustained!
I had my neighbor plumber install this 283 1/2 horse in its place because I was afraid to do so myself while flow was still pretty high in the weeks following. I like this pump and its quality but wish I had bought the 280 and a more reliable electronic switch as I've discovered here.
Can the 283 be converted to a manual 280 (remove the integrated tethered float and bypass) so I can then install a more reliable switch? If not I will buy the 280 instead and re-install in the near future. That is my only recommendation to others as I fear this mechanical switch failing. Get this pump as manual 280 and then buy the better switch for piggy back.

The 283 has a separate plug for the switch, so it can be removed/replaced.

The Liberty pump that I ordered from Sump Pumps Direct was shipped promptly and it has performed flawlessly since I installed it. I like the tether float switch on this pump because it will be easy to replace if it should fail.
