Too bad they are going out of production. Please somebody keep this saw in production. Such a well-made tool that will last a lifetime if maintained properly.

Second Update On The Torture Test
By Ken Z.

Review Posted 01/21/2023
I previously wrote about the saw stalling out. I called for the warranty repair, and I must say it was very easy and they told me to send it in. I did so, took maybe a week and I got the saw back and it is working fantastic! I have given it a workout like no one has ever seen and this thing chewed up everything I could throw at it! Now I will say this, you need to keep a good quality chain on it! I have tried them all and believe it or not, the Makita chain is the best! It is somewhat scary how this thing will actually dig itself into the wood with very little effort. Its the middle of January and I have had zero problems starting it in the cold. Now it does vibrate more then other saws, but it makes up for that by cutting fast! This spring I have two massive, (and I do mean massive) oak trees that have died and need to be dropped, so it's going to get loads worked out of it. So, I will update again when I finish with them. But so far, I am very pleased with it!! Great job Makita! Now lets see how you do in the long haul! Stay tuned everyone! Time will tell!

Update On Torture Test

Well, This is an update to my last review. After now having the saw for over 6 months now, I can say this, "When its running, it runs very well". Now, that being said, I am not having an issue KEEPING it running. Every time it goes back to idle, it stalls out. (I use premixed fuel only!) So, I am going to see what the "Tech services" people at Makita have to say on Monday. I know this unit has in the past had an issue with going from full throttle back to idle so i always have slowed it down easy. But now, it dies right out. It will start right back up by putting choke on half way and one pull it starts, but sorry, I need my saw to idle. I have fell more the 20 huge ash trees this summer and cut them up. So it did do what I wanted it to do, but the saw needs to keep running in order for me to give it my full blessing. I will keep everyone posted as to what happens next!

Makita 6100 Torture Test!

I live in 20 acres of woods. I use wood for bonfires, and for my woodstove in the winter. In my life, I have owned Craftsman, Stihl and the latest Husqvarna rancher. Every single one has lasted 4 years or less, and it's not because I don't take care of them. I have always used engineered fuel and premium bar oil. Every day after cutting, I take my saw chains off and sharpen them and clean the saw. But my absolute worst unit has been the Husqvarna. The first one I purchased lasted one year before it wouldn't start, it was replaced, and I purchased the extended warranty (4 years).

The replacement lasted 4-1/2 years, and after numerous calls to Husqvarna, I was basically told to pound sand. I took it in for repair, and the shop told me they have a huge problem with head gaskets. Sooooo, this year, I have purchased the Mikita 6100, (with extended warranty). So far, I have taken down 38 massive ash trees and 3 giant oaks. The only issue I have so far is stalling out at idle. It does start right back up, but it is an annoyance. I do not baby my saws. I expect them to work as hard as I do. So when I run them, they run all day. This saw has the power to push through whatever you throw at it so far. It does vibrate pretty bad, but it's manageable. But time will tell the tale. Since this saw is only a few months old, I can't say what the extended life will be. But I will try and make updates to this post as time goes on.

Makita EA6100P 20" Bar

Initial impressions are good. Fairly easy to start following instructions. Used for cutting 28" Ash tree. Saw with Oregon Chain cut without bogging down or binding. Plenty of power. Straight cuts top-down and uppercuts as well. It is lightweight as compared with my Husqvarna Model 51 with 20" bar which I've had for 22 years. Had to adjust the automatic bar oiler to increase output using a 20" bar. It was set to medium, increased one notch.

Powerful Saw!
By Timothy S.

The power of the saw is great. I’ve fallen 25”-30” trees, and it makes short work of a cord of wood. 3 stars on the features because it vibrates terribly compared to my old Stihl 026, and it’s not comfortable to run for long periods of time.

There’s a trick to staring it. It never will start 1st pull, it always takes 2-4 pulls, and if you let it go to idle from a high rpm it’ll die and flood out.

Quality Chainsaw Delivers

I needed a new 60cc chainsaw. After watching videos comparing Stihl, Husqvarna, and Makita/Dolmar, I made the decision to purchase the Makita/Domar. The first job was to cut up (5) 28-inch diameter ash logs 9ft long. I changed the bar to 24inch and went at it. Wow, awesome chainsaw. It is built solid, runs well, started and idled great. It started easily even after running a while.

I had all name brand saws before and have been satisfied. I grew up in a logging family, and I'm converting all to this saw. It's easy to start and heavy enough for bigger jobs.
