20+ Years And Still Cutting
By Driftwood

Review Posted 09/26/2023
Was looking for specs for a replacement chain for my WT and saw the reviews from long time owners so decided to add mine.

I have a 30"+ diameter 15' long piece of driftwood in front of my beach place that's been beating the heck out of my bulkhead during storms. It's way too heavy to move other than when it's floating during storms (not a good idea), so I decided to try to cut it into pieces. I decided to use my WT for a trial cut on it to see how dense it was, figuring I'd rent a bigger saw to do the actual full cuts. The WT has been sitting in my garage on a shelf for over 20 years, so I had pretty low expectations that it would even start, let alone run well. I cleaned up the air filter and the spark plug, put in new gas and it fired right up. After a successful trial cut I figured I'd give the WT a chance to prove itself against the log beast (if I killed it, it seemed like a good way for a veteran saw to go out!). After two cuts of 15+ minutes each, the the log beast was in 3 pieces (still too heavy to move) and the WT was still game for more - the chain, not so much. Getting the original chain sharpened and buying a spare - the WT deserves the chance to finish off the log beast!!

Tough little saw.

All Gone. Too Bad.
By Steelieratom

Review Posted 03/04/2023
I purchased my Poulan wild thing on or about 1998, yes 1998! I just had it looked at because now it's slowly dying. The only thing that might be the problem (looked at by a professional) is that the engine cylinder is on its way out... it still runs fine but not a lot of life left. This chainsaw has been a blessing living in the mountains gathering wood every year for winter till 2020. The past 3 years occasionally blocked wood, but nothing major. I just purchased a different brand but had to write about this one. Paid for itself plus! I hated hearing the bad diagnosis on this one but a guess all good things must come to an end. These aren't made anymore, all gone too bad.

It was frozen, buried, swamped and generally abused. 15 years and only replaced chains and fuel lines. Very durable product.

Hard Starting
Waste Of Money!

Extremely difficult to start right out the box. Equally difficult to keep running and it has never idled, dies as soon as you release the throttle. Finally, it got to the point that it will Not Start at all. Before you ask, yes I did clean the spark plug, check the filter, and empty the fuel tank. So, I took it to a small engine repair shop and he said that the repair would cost more than it was worth. I placed it out at the curb with a "FREE" sign on it. I saw two different lawn maintenance contractors stop to look at it and both left it behind. I guess they know more than I knew when I bought it.

I have had the wild thing for 20 years. It always starts on no more than 3 pulls cold and 1 pull when warm. I have worn out 9 chains and 2 bars, and today I had to replace the fuel line. What else can you say? And 1 spark plug.

The key to this is only put oil and gas in metal can and you will never have a carb problem a man told me this 30 years ago and he was right. This is a great saw.

chain saws in general
By Tony

Review Posted 09/13/2015
used to work for a tree service, maintenance was a big part, 10 idiots trying to break saws who would not listen to advice, anyway besides the fresh fuel deal if you look at the front of the bar most with sprockets have a small hole on each side this is for grease. A bar costs a lot if you grease them witch does not cost much you buy less bars and have more power to the chain.

If you flood the motor all you need to do is...switch on choke off throttle on full. pull the rope a few times it will usually start. do not turn the switch off with the throttle on.. loads it up and fouls the plug every time. can not clean a fouled . you will have to replace it. as far as quality goes you get what you pay for.

Great little chainsaw
By John H.
Sedro Woolley, Washington
Review Posted 02/11/2015
I have had my Poulan Wild Thing chain saw for over 10 years now. I bought it when they first came out, and it's still running great. I keep up on the maintenance (plug, filter, and keeping the chain sharp), and this little saw keeps on going without ever letting me down.

I would recommend this saw to everyone. It has been a fantastic saw. I'm glad I bought it, and you would be too if you're seeking a dependable chainsaw.

Not One Con About This Saw
Nice when it starts
By John O.

Review Posted 01/04/2015
I bought this brand about two years ago. It works fine when it starts. It is very difficult to start and keep running. I used it today, and once I got it started I got about half way done when it decided to stop and would not restart. I will have to give it a couple of days rest to be able to finish my project.

I would not buy another Poulan.

Manufacturer Response
John,

Sorry you are having problems with your saw. I would recommend buying a couple of cans of pre-mixed fuel and run this in your saw. Fuel has a life of only 30 days. After 30 days, the fuel can start to damage fuel hoses and carburetor parts. Husqvarna Pre-mixed fuel has a shelf life of approximately 2 years after the can has been opened. If this doesn't solve your problem, you will want to take it to a dealer for repair.
