Best Buy Yet

Bought this unit for my Daughter who lives just off the ocean and gets quite a few storms each year. Unit came to my house and I put it together and unit started on the first pull. Hooked it up to three machines and let it run for a half hour under load. Ran like a Swiss watch. She now has it at her home and is thrilled to have backup for any storms It was a great buy and unit runs great.

Does The Job!

This little powermate 3000 has met all expectations. We have it on hand for outages, have used it 3 times in the past year. It starts easily every time. I run it thru a transfer switch, it keeps the heating system, fridge, kitchen lights and microwave powered in the kitchen. It also provides lighting in two bathrooms. It has been no trouble.

Had a little delay in shipping. Delivery truck with lift gate was a good investment. Unpacked, set up in about 10 minutes. Oil was a pain to get in, oil stick had no measurement on it to tell you when it crank case was full. Filled with gas, chock set, one pull up and running strong. Quieter than I expected. We are ready for the next big one.

Nice Little Generator, A Few Design Flaws.
By Mark

Review Posted 03/15/2013
The Powermate 3000 seems to be a nice little generator with some good features but a few design shortcomings. First, the good news the 3000 starts easily, is not by any means quiet but neither is it overly loud, is light enough for two people to easily lift into a van, SUV, or pickup and it has an L14-30R outlet which allows easy connection a 30 amp transfer switch (I installed a Reliance Control 30216A, watched the videos, it was easy DIY).
In my short testing period, the generator simultaneously powered my oil burner, Sub-Zero refrigerator, 46" LCD TV, desktop computer, and several lights. According to the specs, fuel burn shouldn't be too bad at about 3 hours per gallon.
Areas where the design could have been better: Oil service/checking port is difficult to get to (the generator comes with a funnel with a hose attached for the purpose of adding oil), the folding handles have two funky little pins that lock them into position and the pins dangle around on attachment strings while not in use (this doesn't really cause any problem, I don't use the pins at all, it's just a little weird), the generator outlet plugs are not covered to protect them from the weather (a fairly common shortcoming), and the gas cap is very difficult to operate, it requires high torque to remove but the profile is so low that you can only get your fingertips on it (I actually built a giant wrench for the gas cap so my wife could get it on and off). Although the generator is small, it is quite wide and it requires a "large" size generator cover.
It was a pleasure dealing with Generator Direct and I really like their website. It took about 10 days to get the generator. The generator and box arrived in perfect condition. The driver lowered the generator to the level of my lawn cart and I just slide it in, easy. Overall, I'm confident that the Powermate 3000 will do the job for me but, if I had it to do over again, I might go with a WEN 56352 3500-watt it has many of the same pros and cons but it is $100 cheaper, easier oil access, and a narrower profile (less floor space for storage).

As Promised...
By Rich

Review Posted 12/24/2012
It arrived ahead of your promised delivery date.
Even the delivery guy called early one morning because he was ahead of schedule as well.
Then off the truck, onto a cart, into the garage, read the instructions, added 'Mobil 1' 10W30 as required.
It took 15 minutes to install the wheel kit, rolled it outside, added gasoline, set the choke & throttle, pushed the primer gizmo twice and pulled the starter cord easily.
Too slow the first time, then faster the 2nd time and it started as easy as promised.
So I'm satisfied and have already recommended it to friends.

Perfect Gen

This generator is the perfect size for powering all my 110 volt circuits.
It also has the 30 amp outlet 120/240 volts you will need to match up to the rec. on the house for most trans switches.
You could get a bigger generator, but most still have only the 30 amp outlet to connect to the house .
Also the generator was not loud.

GREAT BUY!!!!
By Ted

Review Posted 10/27/2012
I purchased this gen after the little 800/900W I got from a chain store would not run our two fridges.
This thing runs everything in our 2200 sq ft house except, of course, the standard 240v appliances (electric H2O heater, house A/C, and electric clothes dryer). I have not tried the microwave, dehumidifier, toaster oven and such...
I got a dryer cord and L14-30 plug so I can hook this puppy up in a matter of minutes. . . Hurricane Sandy will hit us tomorrow so I am sure I'll get a really good test, as I expect power to be out for 2 or 3 days.

Only Used Once
By Richard

Review Posted 08/09/2012
The system was purchased to move our 90gal salt water aquarium from VA to AL. We were moving and had to break down the tank and transport 8 fish and 35+ inverts and coral from VA to AL, at best an over night down time (took us 3 days to get the system back up).
I decided to also move my refrigerator and save the costs of the moving company and the wasted food that goes with the frig being down for 1 week or more. With the meat we had, that paid for the system.
The whole experience was great. The system worked well riding on my utility trailer while running. So far, the shock of the move has only cost us 2 fish.
The order tracking and follow-up was great as well. I was nervous as the system was one that was to "ship direct from factory" vs "in stock", the lead time quoted was a few days ahead of my need so I took the risk. They beat their stated leadtime by a day or two. But, the best thing was that they had great tracking to provide me with confidence throughout the process that the plan was going to be met.
Living in thunderstorm-tornado land, I am sure to get plenty of more use out of the system.
I fully expect to add a standby generator once we get settled and plan to buy from EGD again when I do.

Quite Generator
By Robert
Fair Lawn, New Jersey
Review Posted 11/14/2011
I love this generator. I first purchased a 5,000 watt generator and was very disappointed with the noise level. I returned that unit and purchased the Powermate 3000. I was worried that it would not have enough power to run everything that I wanted, but I was willing to rotate each appliance in order to have a quieter unit. It turns out that my appliances were new energy efficient models and therefore 3,000 watts (3,750 surge) was enough to run everything I needed at a much lower noise level than the 5,000 watt unit that I started with. It was also less expensive, uses less fuel and weight about 60 pounds less than the 5,000 watt unit (not a powermate). For me, this is the perfect generator and electric generators direct was great to deal with.
