I've ran this generator almost every day for three years now and never had one problem with it. It's really one of the best generators made, keep the oil changed the carburetor clean it'll do what it's supposed to. The Motors are excellent.

Powermate 4250 Watt Portable Gen
By Wesley

Review Posted 06/07/2011
I purchased the Powermate Generator new and used it for about fifty hours. One day while running the generator I noticed oil under the generator (on the ground) I shut the unit off and inspected the unit and found that the rear crank seal had blowen out. I cleaned the unit and reinstalled the seal with Locite, it worked for awhile but the seal blew again. Now it is very hard to locate a new seal because it is metric sized? What to do now?

First Time Generator User
By John

Review Posted 02/17/2011
I have lived in the same home for almost 30 years and had at least hundred blackouts (both short and long). I purchased this generator (my first ever) because I reach the end of the line with a house with no power.
The Powermate has a Subaru engine (just like my snowblower), so I expect it to start quickly without my arm falling off. I have not had a need to use it to date although I did gas it up and it worked perfectly.
When the time comes that I really need to use it I will send a second story on how it performed.

Helped me out a few days ago

I live near Washington, DC. Sunday we had a very bad thunder storm that put most of the county in the dark. I waited a few hours to see if the power would return, and it did not.
So I bought this generator 5 years ago after we had lost power for five days after Hurricane Isabel. I had run it one time for about 10 minutes in the past.
I brought it out on Sunday and filled up the gas tank. It took me a couple times to get the choke set right and then it fired right up- it has a really cool rumble when on choke. Then I threw off the choke and it came up to speed and ran.
I ran extension cords around the house to power vital appliances. I added them one at a time and I was amazed at how many it would run. I had two full size fridges and a 5ct chest freezer, a TV, and misc. small items chargjng.
The only problem I had was a jealous neighbor complaining about the noise. I was not going to lose my frozen goods or what was in the fridge.
I was impressed with the fuel usage as well.
So yes, I would buy this again, without question.
Thanks for reading.

Buying it again

Had this one before as a standby hurricane generator a few years ago. It ran my house (and my neighbors' who plugged in to my outdoor outlets) for days.
It ran like a champ and noticeably quieter than the others I and my friends have had.
I lost it in the divorce, so I'm buying the exact same one again!

Wish for an add-on
By Bryn Rutecky

Review Posted 03/29/2010
I did write a review already, but I would like to also add and ask for this also.
This Powermate Generator, I wish it had add-ons that can be added. An hour meter, a volt meter, and also a 12 volt connection would make this machine the best on the market.
If any of these ever come out as add-ons I'd be the first to have them on my machine.

Never let us down
By Bryn Rutecky

Review Posted 01/31/2010
This generator has never left my family in the dark or the cold. I wired my house for this generator and it has never let us down.
I know that we over work this machine, but never once did it die out or slow down for me. It is ran each and every month whether the power is out or not.
I do keep it very clean and 3/4 full of fuel at all times. I do run it under a load with 1 heat gun (1800 watts), and 1 hair dryer (1500 watts) each month. I also use Sta-bil in the gas tank , and store the generator in an outside shed.
I use only Powermate oil for the oil change every 6 months no matter how much the generator is ran during that time.
I'd like to have another generator like this one to use when I am out on jobs. The Subaru engine is by far the best for this machine. If it was not for the lights being on you would never hear it running. And it never takes more than 2 pulls to start it up, NO matter how cold it is outside.
Note: to every one that uses a generator- the grounding lug is put on all generators for a reason. Use it; it takes no time at all to just insert your ground wire and tighten 1 screw. It just might be your life it will save.
The only add-on that I wish it had is an hour meter.
