Has the power and run time to cut though tall grass and weeds. But having trouble with the bump feed binds up, won't feed line out, have to push in 1 cover plate clip tab, and then push on button, and pull string out.

Thank you for taking some time to provide your feedback, and we are sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your line advancement. There are a few different reasons why the line may be getting jammed, the first and most common reason is that the line you are using is too large for the trimmer head. We notice that you have had the trimmer for a few months now, and you've likely replaced the line. Please make sure the line you are using is .095 diameter.
Another likely culprit is again, a simple one; technique. Because the bump feed style trimmer heads use centrifugal force, the technique is important. For best results, make sure that when you are "tapping" the trimmer head that it's on a soft surface such as your grass and that it's rotating at full speed to ensure that it advances properly. Also, tapping to advance line frequently is important. If you don't tap enough, the line may become sheered.
If you are using the correct line and technique, and are still experiencing difficulty, we recommend taking a look at your Owner's Manual page #10. This outlines the line replacement process step-by-step. The first thing to check when the head is disassembled is the spring (Figure 8), make sure that the spring looks okay as this will definitely cause issues. If spring checks out, follow the steps accordingly and see if you see a difference.
If you follow these steps and are using appropriate line, yet continue to experience difficulty with your line advancement, you may want to give Redback a call at (877)-487-8275 for additional remote troubleshooting. Should you have any difficulty with Redback or have a question/concern that we may be help with, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly HERE.
Your business is greatly valued, and we hope to have another opportunity to work with you in the future, thanks again.

Great Alternative To Gas Powered Trimmer
By Jerry C.

Purchased 04/17/2019 |
Review Posted 05/19/2019
Nothing seems to be compromised in this trimmer in comparing it too my gas powered Husky. Very powerful, chops through tall weeds with no problems. You do have to get used to the "throttle", it's either on or off, there is no feathering or half throttle position. Not a bad thing, just different from gas model. Very satisfied so far. The charge lasts as long as I do, about an hour or a little more then we're both ready for a recharge. One other important note, I live in a high fire danger area of SoCal so having a trimmer that does not require me to refuel a hot engine is a definite plus. All in all, very happy with my purchase.

Thank you for taking the time to follow up with us on your experiences with your new Redback String Trimmer and we are sorry to hear that you have been having issues with your bump feed trimmer head.
It’s not uncommon for the string ports to get clogged with garden debris which can cause lackluster bump feed performance. We also suggest checking the line to make certain that the line is not twisted, and the loops are not crossed. The Owner’s Manual also has some nice step-by-step instructions on how to assemble and disassemble the head to replace/adjust the line. An electronic version of the OM may be found HERE for your convenience and the instructions are on page #10.
If adjustments do not provide a remedy and you think that the unit may be defective, please reach out to Redback (877)-487-8275 for professional counsel. They will be able to send replacement components and/or connect you with a service provider to get your unit looked at under warranty.
We hope that our feedback helps lead you to a resolution and if you have any questions that we may help with, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly at any time.

Lots Of Power!

I have a 3/4 acre lot and had plenty of battery to do all the trimming, despite the fact that grass was long and thick after my grass trimmer stopped working. Very powerful. The bump feed system for the line works like all the other bump feed systems I've had... line gets tangled inside spool sometimes, needing to be removed and untangled.

Bump line advance doesn't work. I have to completely remove and manually feed more line. Missing 2 handle screws when the unit arrived. Purchased locally because the service rep at Frictionless World couldn't supply the parts.

Thank you for following up with us and we are sorry to hear about the issues you’ve been having with the bump feed. It’s unclear how much experience you have with a Bump Feed type trimmer head, but it’s important to note that the line will not advance unless at full throttle as the centrifugal force is what allows the line to “feed”.
If this is the case, yet are still experiencing issues with the line feed, we suggest contacting Redback at (877)-487-8275 for professional troubleshooting (it may be as simple as addressing a stuck spring). The manufacturer will be able to determine if a replacement trimmer head is appropriate and supply those missing screws if you have yet to locate them.
Your business is highly valued and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly.

The Line Feed Mechanism Is Faulty
By Charles J.

I had high hopes for this trimmer but it has one major flaw that makes the trimmer somewhat difficult to use. It is the bump feed.
The instructions for the changing of the trimmer line are not clear and quite confusing.
I spent a lot of time opening the bump feed mechanism and rewinding the string in order to actually trim my grass. The bump feed is proprietary and you are not allowed to use any other 3rd party bump feed as a replacement.
I would highly recommend that you stay away from this product and stick with the name brand string trimmers that have a track record of reliability. Stihl, Echo, Honda, Ego, Milwaukee....
