Works good, But Lacks Needed Options

This item works pretty well, but not what I really would have preferred. First, with the cord, it allows you to plug in appliance or item and move it to easily view the reading vs having the item itself plug in to wall and have to get up to wall to see watts. It is easy to use, however it does not have any kind of history to show high watts such as when a surge occurs on startup, you would have to be looking at it during startup and hope you can see it when it occurs. This just shows current watts but works well.
I have another device that shows the high watts and low watts plus current watts but is a more expensive unit also, but to me, this data is critical for a watt meter. This item would be more useful with a high watts feature, and although I would recommend this item, I am hesitant to recommend other than it was not expensive and shows current watts and easily can see the watts since it a corded device. I would more highly recommend another version however that shows more options other than current watts only. Should not be much more expense to hold a high watts usage in electronics.

It Does The Job
By John Z.

I would have given it a 5 had it had a female plug-in pig-tail a 5+ had it come with an on/off switch and a 10 if it displayed the spike/surge voltage side-by-side with the run-time voltage. As it comes, one needs to pull and insert appliance several times to ensure actual readings of the spike - if you don't see the very first number (flashes as fast as a blink) - you will miss the high surge reading. One of appliance flashed (blink-speed)at 830, then 178 then fell to 98. At first we used 178 cuz you are looking at the plug while plugging it in and you miss the first display but see the second - after re-testing, we found that if one person keeps an eye on the LED display while another person plugged in the appliance, you got an accurate load value. At first, we thought a 2000 volt generator would suffice, we actually need a 3700.

Have a multimeter. But this is so much easier. Plug into wall socket, plug appliance into meter. Presto, amps & volts. Did so for all appliances in home. Made a list. Manage consumption. If installing transfer switch, you need this.

Watts up....

This testing device is great. You need something like this to check your power draw. I used this to check the power draw on my generator, and then replaced the power hungry halogen lights with a thrifty LED light for my work shed.

Having an outside project , I wasn't sure on how much amperage I would need. This handy-Dandy little device gave me the knowledge to put my project into a better prospective. It amounted to , How Much I Thought I Knew vs What I only Thought I knew. The Reliance Load tester is a mind & If ya do it wrong, Life Saver.
