Reliable, best grooming mower ever produced, set high standards for all other mfg. I still own 6 riders and
7 21" S.P. walk behind. I was a dealer.

A real review of the 33 in RER Snapper
By David

I would never buy this mower again. First of all, it is exceptionally noisy. You need ear protection to use this mower. Noise was a problem and concern before I purchased the mower and I called both Snapper and Briggs & Stratton to get their take on the noise of the mower. Each said to contact the other. Nice! Later, I found out that Briggs & Stratton owns Snapper!!! Aside from the noise, this lawnmower is extremely dangerous. If you are on a hill and stop and start the mower again, it can easily buck you off the mower when you put it in drive. It is not just a little thrust, but one that could end your life. Snapper/Briggs & Stratton know about this. Lastly, it doesn't cut grass well. To sum up, if you want to ride a dangerous mower with ear protection that doesn't cut grass well, this is the mower for you!!

Snapper is the best

We had a 33 inch 12.5 hp Snapper for about 22 years and wore it out. We have mowed with our new 33 in 17.5 hp and it is great, I wouldn't buy any other mower and the price was good. I am thinking about buying another one for my husband except smaller, like the new safety features also.

Snapper 33" RE
By Todd
South Carolina
Review Posted 07/19/2012
I received my Snapper 33" RE nicely crated after calling RL carriers to find out the arrival time. The instructions were mostly accurate but most likely written for the guy assembling these at the mower shop, not the homeowner. Assembly did take a few hours and required more skill than I expected which was fine for me but might be too difficult for some people.

I upgraded from a Murray 30" with a 10hp engine and this Snapper with the 17.5hp feels like twice the machine!

This Snapper does not turn on a dime but does cut a straight line with ease which is very important for me. After struggling with the mower stopping the blades while shifting in reverse I finally fixed that problem. On the side of the mower where you gear shifter is located you will find a silver bracket. You can actually raise it with your finger and manually override that lockout safety device this must be done frequently. Of course if you remove that bolt that secures it and replace it with a bolt with continuous threads you can lock it in override mode permanently. Also I did install a Tiny Tach hourmeter directly above the throttle control to keep up with the hour count for service intervals as this mower is built well and should easily outlast the big box mowers.

Snapper did not include the drinking bottle and holder but I emailed them and they quickly sent one out for me. Apparently they only come on 33" RE?

One other thing that is unusual about this mower is that the engine does not have a charging system. You can see where the voltage regulator should be but none is installed. The battery was fully charged from Mowers Direct but I think you have to recharge it with a battery charger once it loses its charge. I am about 80% sure this is the case. I have not researched this at all just my observation dealing with small engines.

The mower has a very unique disc drive system that moves the tractor. Almost like gears that engage each other. I've never seen anything like it. I assume it is unique to Snapper but not sure?

Bottom line, I am happy with this mower. The mower is built like a tank. It does stand up for easy blade change and grease fitting access. Actually everything is easy to access which is the main reason I went with this mower.

Disappointed
By ARY

Review Posted 06/11/2012
The dealership delivered my mower when I wasn't home, after it had been "put together". The engine was running rough and missing and the cutting was not up to par. Now I am having trouble returning the mower and getting my money back. I have always preferred Snapper Mowers but I am really disappointed in this one.

Impressed

I weigh 239 lbs and have a very hilly back yard. That 17.5 horse power mower didn't even know I was on board. It's a little soon to tell but first impressions count and I am impressed. My friend who owns a 23 horse power craftsman was even more impressed than I, the heavy duty thick steal frame and mower deck were far superior to his. It started right off and only took a few minutes to get used to the way the mechanical functioned. That thing pulled me up my steepest slope and didn't even groan or slow down one bit. I am impressed.
