Height Adjustment Missing

It doesn't appear to have a height adjustment. On uneven land, one side tends to scalp the ground. I will have to make something so that it cuts about two inches from the level of the ground.

It's a little bit like art

Review Posted 01/09/2012
The way this trimmer cuts through the weeds and grass like butter. SOME HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT STRINGS CONSTANTLY BREAKING. WELL, THIS TOO IS AN ART. I'LL EXPLAIN. My 8 year old grandson uses this tool but he too breaks strings constantly. The ART of it is use the very tip of the strings to do the cutting. If you move the head in too close the strings will use the first third of the string leaving the last 2/3 to swing about, snag, and break.
Use it gently with an artistic soft touch and you will go three or four uses without breaking any strings. My best is 7 uses doing a fence around my one acre property. The best feature by far is the fact that the cutting head rotates 90 degrees to use as an edger. When you consider this tool replaces a weed eater and an edger, and can be used to mow large areas too. It's a bargain at this price or $100 more.

I have had one of these machines for about 6 years. It has started and run flawlessly for that entire time, no problems. I have about a mile and a half of electric fencing that borders woods on two sides. This machine has enabled me to keep the fence line clear. Yes, the vent at the top of the motor over the starter gets grass collected on it, but it brushes right off and yes, the trimmer lines break if I hit the metal T-posts for the fence too often.
Line replacement is quick and easy, and if I break the lines, it is because I have abused them. They easily cut through brush and multi-flora "pricker bushes". This is probably the only machine I have that has not had to be rebuilt because of using ethanol. It was pricy, but so far, worth it.

Breaks strings left and right
By Dave

The Swisher trimmer head design is the worst in the biz. Only one way to attach strings and it causes them to break at the head if you contact anything besides grass. If you have a need to trim around fencing or mailbox posts or tress then do NOT buy this machine as these obstacles will break the line with even the slightest contact.

Not a bad trimmer......but............
By Ronald

Review Posted 05/01/2011
I have owned one of these trimmers for 2 years now and it works fine. There is however, a few gripes I have with it. The first is the price - its too high for this product. For one reason, it doesn't have a choke. This can make starting a problem. Also, it feels like the engine isn't revved up enough even when you slide the throttle as high as it will go.
Another thing that I don't like is after just a few minutes of use, the engine will be covered in grass and debris. I had to keep pulling grass off of it for fear the engine would overheat. I have actually mounted a frame in front of the engine with a piece of thin plastic to keep a lot of the grass off the engine area. Helps a little, but not a big improvement. The other thing is that grass will clog up around the back pulley. To solve this, I actually removed the back plate so that the grass will fall out the back as I mow. I'm sure this is not the safest thing to do, but it works. In summary, the price is about $150 bucks too high. It needs a choke. It also needs a better way to deflect the grass and debris away from the engine. It needs a little more thought in it's design.
