Not Durable

A great mower with good power and width, but even after keeping it well maintained with tune-ups at a Toro shop, it is moved out just after the 3-year warranty. Belts, master cylinder, blades, etc. The cost to repair is $525. I thought Toro was better quality than this...

Worst Mower Ever!
By Stephen K.

Purchased 02/24/2017 |
Review Posted 06/10/2017
This mower is a very poor performer. I previously owned a Troy Bilt 33 " mower. It was a beast. I used it for 14 years before I had to give it up because of moving to a smaller house without a storage shed. It had casters on the front which made it more maneuverable than this Toro despite its larger size. The Toro chokes on clippings frequently yet clippings build up under the deck necessitating frequent cleanings mid-mow. The gas tank is woefully undersized necessitating frequent refills. Clippings drop on the lawn in clumps leaving a mess. This is not a mulching mower by any stretch.

Sorry to hear that you're not satisfied with the cut you're getting from the mower. I would suggest following the operating tips on page 15 of the owner's manual.

We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with your new Toro mower. We recommend adjusting the height of cut to a higher setting. This will lessen the amount of grass you are attempting to mow at one time, reducing these clogging or loss of power instances. Longer grass looks great and allows your lawn to establish deep roots improving the turf's ability to sustain drought conditions.

Of course, the height to which you cut your lawn is entirely up to you. We recommend cutting cool-season grasses when they reach heights of 3- to 3-½-inches and warm-season grasses when heights reach 2- to 2-½-inches. Measure your current grass and adjust your height of cut accordingly. As a general rule, you should not cut more than one-third of the height of your grass at one time as you may experience clumps of clippings that lie on top of the lawn, slower decomposition, and a less attractive, bristly appearing lawn. If you want a completely clean looking lawn without clipping debris you can change to bagging your clippings.

Your mower has a 3 year warranty and if you are still experiencing issues, please contact our customer service line and they will gladly help you work through any existing issues (888) 384-9939 (toll free).

I'm Really Liking This Mower

Basically a beefier powered push mower. I would like a bigger fuel tank but no real complaints, well maybe it's pricey for what it is. I wanted the maneuverability of a pusher but the width of a small ride on. It fits the bill for my half acre.

Wish I Had Bought This Sooner

In 1987 I bought my 21" Sears mower, It served me very well, and I kept up on the maintenance of it, but I'm an older guy now and it took me an hour on my front lawn and 62 trips back and forth to get it done... I needed a bigger mower but a riding mower wouldn't fit thru my 36" gates. I searched the internet for a 30" mower and found this one on Mowers Direct. I liked the features and it would fit thru my gates, and with the electric start it was cheaper than any in town. Best piece of lawn equipment I have bought. It's easy to start, cuts perfectly and the time savings make it a want to mow, not a have to mow my lawn. I now mow my front lawn in 20 minutes and only 29 trips, I love it!. Also the ease of cleanup with the hose attachment. It's a heavy mower but that's to be expected, the fuel tank will do one lawn per fill, but that's not a biggie because by then you'll want a break anyway.

Very Pleased With This Mower

The best feature is the 30" mowing width. I have a very large lawn so the extra width is great. I went with the electric starter version and I'm glad I did. It is such a great feature. I have only used the mower twice so far but I am extremely pleased with my purchase so far!

I am very displeased with the purchase of my new 20200 Toro mower. We purchased it from Mowers Direct less than a month ago. The first time I used it, it was great. The second time I used it, the electric start required several attempts before the motor started.

Once it started it was good, but the start concerned me. My third attempt, this time using the bag, the mower would not re-start at all with the manual pull or the electric start. After sitting for 15 minutes, it would sometimes re-start. Additionally, it is idling roughly when the blade is not engaged.

This mower is already under-performing my 15 year old Lawn Boy that I purchased on craigslist for $100. Now I get the joy of navigating Toro and Mowers Direct "warranty" process. I'll report back, but my advice right now is to steer clear of this one.

We are sorry to hear you are having trouble with your Toro mower. For starting issues please bring your Toro mower to the nearest dealer for servicing within three years of your purchase date and Toro will fix your unit for free.

First be sure to have your mower filled up with fresh gasoline. Old gas can also lead to problems starting. If you have last season's gas in your mower, drain your fuel tank and fill with fresh gas. Other possible causes include:

• Loose, Dirty or Disconnected Spark Plug in Your Lawn Mower: Check it out, clean off debris, re-connect and tighten.
• Dirty Air Filter: Clean or replace.
• Fuel Not Reaching the Engine: Tap the side of the carburetor to help the flow of gas. If this doesn't work, you might need a new fuel filter.

Please call our customer service number if you have any other questions (888) 384-9939 (toll free).

Disappointed

I'm as so disappointed with this product. I broke down on my after 3 weeks since I bough it. I had to bring it over to Toro dealer for repair. :(

The repair was around $430 which I didn't have to pay since it was covered under manufacturer warranty. I wonder what happens when it breaks down again after the warranty expires.

Sad.

Toro 30" cut
By Jerome M.
Coldwater, Ohio
Review Posted 09/12/2016
I own a Toro TimeMaster (30") 190cc Self-Propelled Lawn Mower w/ Electric Start and mulching kit, that I bought in 2015. The mower is the best mower I have ever owned, and I have owned Honda, John Deere, and Lawn Boy mowers over the past 50 years.

The personal pace feature is incredibly sensitive to my change of pace as the grass conditions change. When changing direction the disengage and re-engaging of the drive wheels, it is so effortless that the mower seems lighter than it really is. The electric key start has been flawless and there isn't a throttle, so the motor runs at the preset rpm's. The wide wheels carry the more well when faced with soft conditions. My lawn has few grade changes, so I have not had any issues with traction.

When the grass is dry, the mower performs very well in tall grass. In really heavy tall grass, I can get into a crawl in forward movement, as my fine blade fescue grass is like mowing a heavy shag carpet. Other mowers I have owned, had the same issues with the really heavy grass. Mulching presents a whole new set of issues for a lawn mower when recutting the clippings to a fine mulch. I have never had a mulching mower that cut-up the clippings as fine as this mower. It's incredible how the fine mulch gets lost in the lawn.

When the grass is damp with morning dew, the mower tends to pack with wet grass and the deck loses its suction, plus every couple minutes wet grass will break loose from the housing wall and create a heavy ugly discharge of grass under the mower. The motor is taxed in wet grass when the build-up on the deck walls becomes obstructive to clipping flow. I personally have never had good luck in damp grass with a walk behind mower.

This is a great mower and will satisfy reasonable expectations.
