Love this mower. It has not only cut my mowing time by 70%, but the lawn looks great also. I just had to learn how to use it. But the learning curve was quick & easy. Glad Mowers Direct had one!

Solids But Beware These Were Sitting For Years In Warehouse
By Alex H.
Bettendorf, Iowa
Purchased 04/08/2019 |
Review Posted 07/22/2019
Very solid, great power and Hill holding ability. The Bad. Standard stamped Deck is thin and being cautious of what your deck may touch is crucial. I regret not paying the extra for a welded solid deck, But I will remain vigilant about tight corners. Since these are discontinued they have been sitting in warehouse for years and need to be aware of that before using. Triple check the Ground cable on the motor is Solid ( Mine wasn't and I didn't know about that so it had to go to dealer within 3 months for a simple fix). Needless to say New Mowers have a weak (190CCA) battery. That is the only real 'Upgrade' you will likely need.
MowersDirect worked with me well on those few issues.
The Neutral,
Steering with the wheel does take more muscle than some may have. If you can't handle turning what feels like a good 20 pound's + of resistance as much as your property needs You're better to stick with the traditional zeroturn.
Personally I prefer the steering wheel because It doesn't tear up the grass as much as the standard zeroturn. I can get a lot closer to bushes etc. with more control. And The Biggest factor for hills. It will hold a Line on the hill and you can actually point and move down a hill and turn as needed at a higher rate of speed (Safer!).
The Good,
Everything else. Fast, Not too loud, doesn't suck up fuel too fast, plenty of flexibility with functions. Safe. Low Maintenance (pending battery upgrade).

Great Mower For Steeper Hills
By Mark D.
Saint Charles, Missouri
Purchased 04/04/2018 |
Review Posted 04/27/2018
This SW4200 zero turn mower is perfect for my yard conditions because I need the steering wheel to steer sideways on hills, the 2-wheel rear drive for traction, and this mower has the smallest cutting deck (42") to fit through my 4' gates. Cuts great and does not leave mulch clippings unless the grass is too long or wet. Good power. Not loud. Much faster than my previous riding mowers. The only other mower with all these features is the Cub Cadet but I chose the Toro for its slightly larger engine size and adjustable steering column which makes getting on and off easier. Mowers Direct delivered this mower VERY quickly, all the way to my garage. It took me 2 hours to uncrate and assemble mower, and another hour to install the optional mulching kit. The only feature I wish it had is a floating deck to follow the contour of the ground (my Simplicity 38" rider had this but was not a zero turn so it had bad traction).

Not Happy
By Thomas B.

Never again - the worst online purchase I've ever made. No bolt or wing nut for battery terminal. Missing nut for the bolt holding the steering tie rod to the left wheel. Found a pin without the cotter key laying underneath the mower - not sure if it fell off or was left there inadvertently. Packaging/skid was a nightmare. It appeared the mower was on the skid incorrectly as the high end of the skid was at the rear of the mower and it was impossible to push the mower off as described in the instructions. Had to use a chainsaw to dismantle the skid to remove the mower. Can't comment on the mower as I have been unable to use it yet because of all the issues.

Goog Deal, But Time Will Tell
By Michael G.

This is more about shipping and packaging than performance, as I have only mowed the lawn with the Toro once so far ... Still learning, but it started right up, and it pulls better than the 48" Husqvara I previously had...I think the Toro layout with the engine weight behind the drive axle and my fat rear end ahead of the axle makes for better traction.
The zero turn seems to work well, but the complexity of the steering mechanism is scary...only time will tell how well it lasts. Delivery was a snap...I paid for the drop gate delivery, and the driver pushed it down the drive and into the garage...easy-peasy.
Cutting off the box was a chore, but not hard to do. I had four stout men from work come to the house and lift the mower off of its pallet...after that, just add the seat and the steering wheel, check the oil, add gas, and get after it.

Mine Failed In The First Hour Of Use
By Jim

Review Posted 08/15/2017
Didn't finish mowing my yard the second time before the mower began dragging a rear tire. Thought initially it was the electric parking brake. Apparently it is a gearbox... It cut well for the hour I got to use it. Now it's off to the shop for "warranty service."

This Is A Great Mower
By Paul C.
Chittenango, New York
Review Posted 08/05/2017
I purchased mower Jul. 20, 2017 from a local Toro Dealer. I liked the idea of the steering wheel opposed to the handle bar operation. To mow my lawn with a push mower it takes 1 hour and 45 minutes. My zero turn, first time out took me 40 minutes. Being a new user I haven't quite got the knack in the proper turn around method. I read one of the other reviewers comments, that gave me the idea I was not accomplishing the proper turn. The reviewer said when making the turn you must fully turn the wheel to it's maximum capability thus allowing the steering transmission do it's job.
I have not tried this as of yet because I've only used this machine twice. However, I must add that my second time I did decrease my cutting time by 5 minutes. My next cut I will try giving the wheel more of a turn to see if it makes the cut turn better. So far I love this SW4200 zero turn. I love the safety features but I'm still not used to them either.
I do have a question: Do the back wheels have grease fittings?

Based on the information in the manual. It does not indicate the back wheel have grease fitting that need to be serviced. Most likely these are sealed. For more information, Toro can be reached directly @ (888) 384-9939.
