This is a good Trimmer I've had the first one coming up on 8 years now didn’t need to replace yet but our hardware store quit carrying them and came across this one on eBay a great price so now I have another one for another 8 years I’m set.

This is one of the loudest, heaviest and most difficult to operate trimmers I have ever owned.

GREAT, BUT

Loved the trimmer until the starter cord wouldn't recoil. Tried fixing it myself. Removed every visible screw and bolt without gaining access to the spool.
When I went to the professionals for service they told me the engine had to be completely disassembled and it would be just as expensive as buying a new and different brand.

Pull start bad

I have had two of these so far, and after the second or third time using these the pull string broke. Considering the price, you think it would be more durable

The weed whacker

It does the job well, went to Lowe's to get some more string and I bought the starter that you put in the pull start. I like it very much and is better than the electric type. I use high test gas because it is better and runs cleaner.

Pretty good trimmer if you know the details
By Chris F.

Troy-Bilt changed their model design without changing the model number. String Trimmers Direct does NOT have the current model pictured. The old model had an obvious and easily removed head. The new model DOES have a removable head although it does not feel as though it does have an apparent way to disconnect.
Hold the drive shaft at the opposite end with a pair of vice grips and turn the trimmer head counter clockwise. It's on PRETTY tight. You may have to put the vice grips in a vice to hold them. To unjam the trimmer line you may have to remove the head. There are universal trimmer heads that will fit this model if you like.
Be sure to use a quality line!! Cheap line (such as that included with the trimmer) will regularly break at the hub requiring the trimmer to be restrung (10x in trimming a small yard). No problems so far with the new line.
Engine works well. Easy to start. A little heavy solved by a shoulder strap I added.
