Great Water Volume. Poor Battery Management
By Todd T.
Ellicott City, Maryland
Review Posted 10/05/2021
This backup sump works great until the battery fails. I have replaced the battery 3 times already. What i think is happening is that the Wayne battery charger does not switch to a 'maintenance ' mode after the battery is fully charged. It just keeps charging the battery as much as it can. Then of course the battery dries out in about 6 to 8 weeks. I fill the battery as often as i can, but if you forget then its another $150 battery.

Does anybody know if Wayne has an upgraded circuit board that would not overchargethebattery?

Unreliable Product-Waste Of Money
By Deanna S.

Review Posted 08/11/2021
We purchased this product in 2017. My husband did extensive homework and the reviews on this product made it seem worth the investment of over $500! Thankfully we never needed it...until last night. A series of heavy storms has hit the midwest this week leaving our power out for 9 hours last night. We went to the basement to find some water in our sump pit but thankfully not an alarming level because this product was worthless. The battery indicates it's fully charged but the pump never kicks on. When we try to manually initiate the pump it just beeps with no pumping of water. What a let down in our time of need and a waste of a lot of money. I would not purchase this brand again.

Very sorry you've experienced issues with your system. Backup systems require some maintenance and should be tested on a regular basis to make sure they preform when you need them to. Please refer to your owner's manual for maintenance and troubleshooting information.

First Time Purchase Of Backup Pump — Recommended By Plumber
By Melanie Z.

Review Posted 07/05/2019
I have no idea if this is a good product or not. I required replacement of my pump too because we could not attach to old pump. Took several hours to fully install everything. Plus battery had been drained & took 24 hrs to charge. Disappointed there is no way to silence alarm if goes off due to power outage.

It’s Ok....Not Great
By J A
Chicagoland, Illinois
Purchased 09/06/2018 |
Review Posted 09/27/2018
Bought this battery back up system for power outages so I can have some peace of mind before I get my generator hooked up. Install was simple with basic plumbing knowledge. My pump didn’t work and it kept blowing the fuse. I contact Wayne and they sent a new control board and power cord. The pump operates now but only draws about an inch of water out of the pit on first activation. Each subsequent activation pulls about 3 inches of water from the pit. Contact Wayne again and they said that shouldn’t be. They sent me another control board. I will install it and see how it goes. If that fixes the problem I would rate the pump higher.

Good product which works great. My only complaint is the power wire from the pump to the electronics box is too short. This limits where the battery assembly can be mounted.

Product Questions Answered by Jim, the Sump Pump Expert
Looking down the road, if and when the pump fails / wears out, would I be able to replace it or do I need to replace the entire unit? Hence, would I be able to use the power inverter or controller with other pumps? Thanks.

Jim, I've seen some reviews on Wayne sump pumps that indicate they are timer operated instead of float switch operated. Is this true and what are the advantages and disadvantages of either system?

Hi Jim, I have an off-grid solar panel system that constantly charges a 12V deep cycle battery bank. The battery bank is capable of storing over 200 amp hours, well above the Wayne 75 amp battery. My question is: if I were to connect this backup pump to the current solar battery bank and leave it unplugged from the wall (solar is capable of maintaining the load and keeping the batteries charged), would the controller run properly without ever being plugged into the wall? I don't want a constant alarm eating my batteries and the pump itself would be used only in emergencies when typical grid power is out. Is there a way to shut off the need for grid power? I prefer to keep the solar array seperate from the grid because it also supplies electricity for our sensitive elecronics, and it's more reliable in the event that I'm not home that the solar panels can theoretically power the pump endlessly. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Joe
