Great Inverter Generator
By Charles G
California
Purchased 01/25/2025 |
Review Posted 02/17/2025
I was not home when the generator was delivered. The delivery guys were very respectful to my wife and placed/slid the pallet into my garage. The original cardboard box was very well secured in an standard wood pallet and the factory shipping box is super solid protecting the generator. Start-up instructions were very easy to understand and matched the plethora of YouTube generator start-up videos I watched. After adding the supplied oil and some unleaded gas the generator started up immediately.
Prior to starting, I checked the gap on the LG spark plug - it was spot on the specs. Still breaking it in using alternating 0%, 25% and 50% loads via floor heater and hair dryer. I'll have it safely broken in before the So Calif rolling brown/black outs coming this summer. I plan to use the generator via a 50 amp connection to run my whole 2,400 Sq ft home with 4 ton A/C as needed.
During break in, the unit ran much quieter than I expected. It is a heavy beast, but the large/solid wheels and easy to use retractable moving bar make it manageable for a 72 year-old to attach the 8 gauge cable and move to the driveway..

Generator Upgrade

Review Posted 01/28/2025

I recently purchased a new Westinghouse iGen11000DFc to replace my 20 year old Porter-Cable B5125-W. The Porter-Cable was still working great however when I replaced my furnace I was advised by Lennox technical support that the new controller would not work with any electrical source having more than 5%THD. I am happy to repot that the Westinghouse iGen works perfectly with my new furnace and AC and is the quietest generator I have encountered. The unit was easy to setup and I went through the break-in period with no issues except some manufacturing debris in the oil. This was captured by using a WEN GNA200 magnetic oil dipstick as recommended from another EGD customer. I will also recommend replacing the original dipstick with the WEN as well as using full synthetic oil after the break-in period. This is a great portable generator and If you are comfortable with moving it around then you will be extremely happy with ease of use and the value and peace of mind it provides.

IGen 11000DFc Is Great Inverter Generator!
By Steve B

Review Posted 01/28/2025
This generator runs great, starts easy, and is surprisingly quiet! I had a 50 amp input box installed by an electrician on the outside of my garage that is wired to a manual transfer switch inside that is wired into my breaker box($1500). To connect I turn off the main power so it can't back feed to the main power lines and then turn on the generator input switch. For safety the transfer switch is designed so that you can only do this if the main power is off. I then can selectively turn on breakers for the circuits in the house that I need to use. I would stay away from using the range, dryer, and any appliance that draws to much current so that I don't overload the generator.
When I first tested this the overload light would come on and the my generator breaker switch would turn off current to the cable plugged into the input box. At first I thought there was something wrong with the generator. After I kept messaging and calling my electrician he came out and checked the setup and found that the apprentice working with him that day had wired the input box wrong! After he rewired it everything worked fine. I did a load test where I turned on all the lights, the tv, computer, and ran a 1500 watt heater and I was only using less than 4 kilowatts. I also have a natural gas heater in the living room that has a built in fan system for heat that also works in power outages.
I especially bought this because it puts out a very clean current with very low distortion which is needed by sensitive electronics. I think they need to do a better job with the owners manual and basic instructions for use (I ended up using the internet to learn more about how to break it in etc.)I am very happy with this generator and feel it was a very good investment to use with the manual transfer switch being wired to my breaker box. So for about $3500 total(instead $15,000 to $20,000) whole house automatic standby system) we are now ready with a house backup generator(I keep it my garage) and I can just wheel it outside and plug it in if we get an ice storm like last year with a power outage.

Amazingly Quiet

Literally got the unit 3 days after I ordered it, delivered to my garage and even placed in my garage at a desired location. I was surprised at how fast it got to me and how friendly the delivery guy was.
Unit is compact and rolls easily, it started right up, and worked as it should. I was shocked at how quiet it was compared to my old generator that was not an inverter. I later had switch installed and we were able to run whole 2500 square foot house including heat with it. I intend to get a soft start on AC and I believe it will run 5 ton a.c.?
This inverter is so quiet I changed the plan about locating it on side of house and will just locate away from house on driveway. I highly recommend the Westinghouse ingenuity 11000DFc.

Overall generator ran well and started right up when needed. The remote start/stop option was fantastic during a hunting trip in cabin. Only issue I had was a loose wiring harness from factory luckily I could diagnose and fix before we needed for trip.

Westinghouse IGen 11000 Inverter Generator

Arrived in good condition--packaging and tools for assembly were excellent. Ran if for 5 hours at max 50% capacity for the break-in period. Even at 50% was able to run my pool pump, fridge, TV, and some lights. Easy to start and run. My electrician was surprised at how quiet it is.
Called e-mailed customer service several times to clarify some operating/break-in procedures. Typically, was easy to contact and or get a response by e-mail.
Biggest disappointment was lack of clarity in the manual. E.G. Does not say in manual have to have a load on generator for break-in period, does not say must turn on breaker on generator, the control readout measures volts and hertz but not watts which is what it produces. I called and asked how to determine when using no more than 50% during break-in period. Rep said to add up watts of items running. I then asked him about the half-moon gauge on the right side of control panel with an electric symbol as it indicated 50% usage.
He then said yes, that is measuring the output of the generator.
Just to be sure, I sent an e-mail requesting verification in writing which I received. My point is that gauge readout should have been explained in the manual since it is critical to the generator output.

Mine Does Not Run On Propane
By Richard P

Review Posted 11/13/2024
I purchased this unit as a replacement for a dual fuel generator running on LP to power my house during outages. That unit worked fine for years but was loud and did not have inverter output.
I carefully performed the breakin procedure for 5 hrs on gasoline, for which it runs flawlessly. However, after moving it to the installation location and plumbing it in to an appropriate LP supply with appropriate pressure (that ran another dual fuel generator fine), my unit cannot run on LP: it won't start on it and will not switch over to it.
I have contacted Westinghouse support but they are achingly slow to respond (tier 1 support told me to expect 10 business days to hear back, by email only). Overall highly negative experience, as this brand new unit isn't able to perform the single task for which I purchased it.

May Work When I Need It

I’d like to say things have been great with my new generator, but they haven’t. It arrived with parts missing (feet), so I cannot use it with wheels and the handle installed, so moving it is more cumbersome.
I cannot get it to start using the push button start without manually opening the choke. The auto choke doesn’t keep the choke open long enough for the engine to turn over. Once I get it running, it runs for less than a minute before the CO sensor shuts the generator down.
I’ll keep troubleshooting it, but I’m disappointed in its behavior and Q/A so far.
