Outstanding Generator
By Rick M
South Carolina
Review Posted 08/16/2024
I previously owned a Generac at my previous home. It was a money pit with having to use a factory technician and then having to replace it after nine years. I have my WinCo under a cover in my service yard. It’s connected to natural gas and I have it wired to a manual switch when I need power. I keep the battery hooked up to a trickle charger. I can do all maintenance on it myself. I love that it is powered by a Honda engine and that the unit is American made. It will run my larger central air conditioner and everything else. I highly recommend this unit.

Beast Of A Generator
By Justin H
Florida
Review Posted 10/03/2022
I purchased this generator when I built my new home, a mile on dirt from the main road, with above ground power through the woods, in Florida. The neighborhood is all acreage properties beyond city limits. We lose power often and in a hurricane scenario we will not be a priority. This is why I dropped so much coin on a seemingly bullet-proof generator. I wanted 2 things: industrial grade components and a Honda engine.

We were just hit with Hurricane Ian and although I’m far inland and away from the extreme damage, the power just came back on after 5 days. This unit now has 130hrs on it and I’m very impressed. I run my entire 1700sq/Ft home including central air and water heater. You get roughly 12 hours of powering everything per 9 gal. of gas. I never ran it to empty so I don’t know max run time on a whole tank. Hook it up, turn the key and walk away for at least 12 hours.

She’s a bit thirsty but she won’t let you down. Built like a tank but that’s what I wanted. This is the same components as their job-site industrial 12k unit but with a lighter frame for home use. If you don’t need more than 12k, this thing should be good for YEARS.

Wheel Kit Shaft Is Too Short

This is the second WINCO gen I have purchased from EGD. Wheel kits for both are low quality. For this gen the shaft for the wheels is too short to accommodate the spacer, washers and cap. Still waiting to hear back from customer service

Great Company To Deal With

We found this Generator on line, based on size, horse power, wattage and fuel ( tri fuel) and the BRAND NAME MOTOR. They informed me of the shortage of product and upcoming Manufacture date, there would be a specific number of generators made on a specific date, we purchased it and waited and it was delivered as promised. Well worth the wait.

Reliable For A 3,000 Sqft Farm Home
By Alberto V.
Homestead, Florida
Review Posted 08/07/2020
I live on a farm where I need power to run everything! Well pump 3 hp house, well pump 3 hp irrigation, pool pump 3hp, 2 central a/c 5 ton & 2 ton, 2 full size refris, elec water heater, washer, house lights are LED. I turned them on one at a time and this generator ran them all!! the light would dim every time the 5 ton a/c kicked on for a second. I was truly impressed. This was only a test, in a real emergency the use will be less. I put 1 gal of gas and it ran the house at full load for 1 hr., I recommend a pre-storm test run to make sure all is good!! Noise, yes! but, when the time comes that you real need it, it will be music to your ears!!

Follow-up: Workhorse That Really Works
By Ellen L.
Port Washington, New York
Purchased 05/08/2013 |
Review Posted 08/06/2020
This is a follow-up to my original review posted in 2013. I bought this generator as an alternative to a more expensive standby generator in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. We have just experienced our first extended power outage since then, in the aftermath of Isaias, which led to massive problems here in the Northeast. We are home with large stores of frozen food because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and power has been out for 48 hours now, with no idea when it will be back. But this workhorse has kept us sane, kept the lights and our Wifi on, and, most importantly, kept our frozen and refrigerated food safe. The power outages managed to hit nearby cell towers as well, so cell phones and cell phone data were a no-go for the first 24 hours or so. But we have been able to communicate with the outside world thanks to the impressive Winco Trifuel generator. We have it running continuously on natural gas, and it is everything we hoped for. Easy to fire up, and once started runs smoothly.

One word of caution: be very careful about the oil level - it's easy to accidentally overfill the tank, and that will cause a lot of trouble. But if you want something that can power an entire house (we don't run the a/c, though we probably could, based on other reviews) and function more or less as a standby generator without the installation expense, I can't recommend this generator highly enough. We were hoping never to have to use it, but now that we have put it into action, we are so grateful we took the trouble to buy it and do the necessary gas and electrical set up.

Getting Ready for the Season
By Paul H.

Review Posted 06/19/2020
I set out on this adventure to get what was needed to stay in my home in south Florida during a hurricane. The Winco HPS12000HE generator will do that, and for less money than a whole house automatic system would cost. It starts and runs my 3 ton central air system with no problem, in south Florida that is very important. The generator is very well made and should last for years with the 20hp Honda commercial engine. I am very happy with Electric Generators Direct, the customer service was great helping get what I needed to run on propane.

Best portable generator available.
By James M.

This is an outstanding american made generator that will work on natural gas, gasoline or LP gas. Three year warranty. Has a Honda engine. You had better make sure you can get service before you buy a chinese made generator with an american brand name. Winco is the real deal.

Thank you for taking time to write a review! Our generators are on the heavy side, but that is because we use heavy duty steel and not plastic - we don't skimp on quality. We are glad to hear you are satisfied with your purchase. We appreciate you!

A Smart Purchase

Review Posted 07/12/2019
A good example of a product made in the US. Quality materials, excellent fit and finish. It starts reliably. For me it’s worth the money for piece of mind. The wife is able to wheel it out to a power inlet box, hook up the pigtail, start it up, and throw the transfer switch. An electrician checked to make sure amperage is delivered to both 120 volt legs in the main meter box. Haven’t had a power outage yet of any duration so can’t comment on fuel usage. The engine is noisy. It isn’t your best choice for a tailgate or a campsite. Looks like natural gas will be the most economical and convenient fuel. Need to add a valve to the house gas line. All in all, would purchase this unit again...

Manufacturer Response
We appreciate you for taking time to write a review! These units are heavy because we use steel and not plastic components, making the unit stable and last for a long time. The commercial Honda engine is on the loud side due to not having a housing enclosure to muffle the sound. For quieter applications, we recommend using an inverter generator. If you are using this with natural gas (or propane) we recommend purchasing a low pressure fuel solenoid kit. This would close the gas line in the event the engine shuts down (i.e. the engine low oil pressure shuts the engine down), preventing gas to leak. Thank you for being a WINCO customer!

Good Quality

Product arrived ahead of backorder ddate. The lift gate service is a must for this beast. At over 400 lbs it isn't easily lifted. Getting the wheel kit on was a bit of a challenge for a solo person, but is doable with some ingenuity.

I also ordered the vapor gas solenoid kit which you need if you are going to run this of natural gas or propane. And you should also order the 60A plug when you order the generator, I couldn't find one at the local HW stores, and the price was reasonable.

Everything is assembled and the test run was successful. Only complaint is that gas tank isn't designed to allow all of the fuel contents to be consumed before the engine quits. The tank may be able to be "adjusted" with some spacers to push more of the fuel over the fuel supply drain

Trying to determine which transfer switch to buy for the Winco HPS 12000HE generator. Our circuit breakers are located in two boxes each rated at 200 amps, but we have more than twice the capacity we need. What used to be a shop is now just a garage/workshop and needs only a light and garage door opener. We have a heat pump, well pump, refrigerator/freezer, freezer, new water heater, and some lights to be used during a black out. I surely don't need 400 amp service then. Do I have to buy a transfer switch for 400 amps just because the capacity of my circuit breakers is that much? Also, do you sell enclosures for this generator?
