Bought this pump around 4 years ago for a back up. I randomly checked it and it started blowing fuses and wouldn't work after 3 and a half years. Total run time was probably 1/2 hour. I haven't taken it apart yet but am sure water got inside the motor area.

I've been using the Zoeller sump system with the 508 backup pump for years. The current backup model seems a good replacement for the original. Gets used a lot and has proven to be dependable.

Feeling At Ease...

I’m feeling at ease once again after installing the new backup sump pump. We I bought my first house a Zoeller backup pump was already installed my the builder, safe to say I never had a flood. We I bought my second home there wasn’t a backup pump at all. I went to the big box store and purchase another brand and quickly returned it and bought this one. Although this pump was more expensive I believe it’s still cheaper than a basement flood. I am a contractor which for me made install very easy but this is a DIY friendly pump that anyone can install.
I recommend this product as well as the company I bought it from.

Works Great. Problem Out Of The Box.

The system is easy to setup and works great. It pumps nearly as much water as my new Zoeller 1/2hp pump which is impressive. The big problem is that I heard a rattle when I took the pump out of the box. I ended up taking the inlet cover off to find a screw floating inside the pump assembly. It was one of the screws for the inlet cover that must have been misplaced during manufacturing. Anyhow, I reassembled it and everything was fine but I imagine that screw would have destroyed the pump immediately if I didn’t realize there was a problem.

While the product seems to be sound I wish you guys would do a real video on installing a backup sump pump. Not a staged install at your own house. Go to a customer’s house and do the install. My install was a total pain and took many hours. Things like marrying the backup sump
Pump up with an older, existing sump. Problems with lining up, cutting, charging and gluing the PVC. Pitfalls to avoid and problems getting two pumps in one sump pit. Leaking PVC joints, etc. I would love to see your guys encounter the problems a DIY person will likely encounter and how to deal with those problems. It was not an easy install for me. I think next time I will just go to a plumber and pay the premium to have it done right.

Easy to install. Hardest part was I put in a shelve for the battery to sit on. Had to drill through solid block for the hangers.

Did Its Job In Last Storm

I had my crawl space encapsulated during the summer. The crew installed sump basin and Zoeller pump, but I opted out of back up pump. Lots of rain this winter, and I realized it was critical to get a back up pump installed or the encapsulation material would be pushed up by ground water if the primary pump failed. First, I had to install battery and charger outside of crawl space about 20' from sump. Spliced in #6 cu and moved battery and charger to suitable location. When installing back up pump, I found the basin tapered down from 18" on top to only 14" on bottom, however I was still able to install back up to primary pump with supplied fittings(no run to hardware store) and pvc glue I already had. Not a centimeter on side of basin to spare.
Day after install storm hit, groundwater rose, primary pump activated every 2 min, and power went out. Back up handled water all night long and was so quiet that I had to listen for the float switch to turn on and off to be sure pump was running. Note, primary pump was on a stand which raised it 1 to 2 inches above bottom of sump and that moved the pump setup up to a larger diameter area of sump basin which then allowed room for back up pump to just fit.

Too Expensive For What You Get

Connection cables to battery are too short for even a shallow (16") sump pit installation. For a standard installation you'll need to add 12-18" to two cables with water tight connections to have enough scope to tidy the cabling out of the way. For the price Zoeller should add the extra 12" to their cables. The rubber gaskets at the connections are pretty flimsy too - both broke on the first insertion, requiring a teflon tape replacement. The charging unit seems to work right, won't know for a while. All in all, the pump, charger and float are fine, it's the connection hardware that should be upgraded to make this worth the price for an easier install.

Hello! What is the minimum amount of clearance needed to install the Zoeller 508 - Aquanot system? I have an older house with a relatively small sump basin. Thanks!
