If you haven't heard of Zoeller Pumps before, you probably live in an area where sump pumps aren't needed. They have been making pumps for the last 75+ years, and if you haven't owned one, you probably know somebody who has.
Zoeller is one of the largest manufacturers of pumps in the US. They stand behind their products and offer a wide selection of sump, sewage and utility pumps.
This Model M84 gets our recommendation for Pedestal Pumps for a few reasons.
They don't call it the Zoeller "Old Faithful" Cast Iron Pedestal Pump for nothing. The cast iron pump housing & base construction w/ PVC column minimizes corrosion in high mineral content water and the permanently lubricated upper sleeve bearing w/ lower bronze bushings offer quiet, smoother operation for extended pump life.
Pedestal pumps are becoming less and less common, but there are still options out there. Try the M84 Old Faithful from Zoeller, it's the best pedestal pump we have to offer.

Outstanding Pedestal Pump

This is still an outstanding pump however Zoeller has changed the pump over the years and not for the better. The vertical shaft is now made out of plastic (most likely PVC) which should be OK but mine was damaged during shipment and the pump was making a grinding noise. Zoeller customer service is outstanding and between Zoeller and Sump Pumps Direct resolved this issue quickly. However, it would be a major improvement to return this vertical shaft to metal (aluminum or stainless steel) as older pumps used. I gave this pump the 3 star rating in quality due to this issue. I would also like to see the impeller and the top housing return to metal. They are also now plastic. Sometimes plastic is just not better.
Many believe that underwater sump pumps are superior to pedestal pumps. Having had many of these under water pumps fail for multiple reasons, mostly electrical, I prefer to have the motor and electrical switches above the sump, out of the water. It also makes it easy to test the pump.

Great style concept for pump. I had a problem with one of my old pumps switch corroding the float ball connection. So I thought getting it out of the water might be a plus.
However when I installed this one into the sump basin the motor is not fully above the basin height. Placement/orientation is critical so that the float rod doesn't run into any pvc plumbing. I think when it dries up I will look into elevating the pump and have satisfaction ever-after!

ZOELLER pump is excellent - and works just as expected. I do find that the height of the tube on pump drive shaft is shorter than what I was replacing - so keep this in mind relative to depth of sump. Pump itself is cast iron which is great - except of course it can rust. I added a couple spray coats of paint just to help preserve the pump longer. If your sump is normally dry this may not be an issue - but something to keep in mind. I like that the electric cord is plenty long.

Pump ordered on a Friday, arrived on Monday. Well packed. Went to install it per specification sheet. Here is where the fun begins. Pump outlet is listed as being 1 1/2" outlet port. Turned out it is 1 1/4". Needed a different adapter and pipe. Quick trip and parts in hand, pump was in place and draining my flooded basement. Check the outlet threads before you attempt to install, so you have the correct adapter.

This is the first Zoeller pump that I have owned. It seems very well built, when it runs it sounds great, empties the sump well fast. Good pump.

I pump surface water or a spring, 24/7 unless the water level drops in the summer. I need a reliable pump and I hope this one does it. The Zoeller M84 1/2 HP cast iron pump.
