Pump failed was out of warranty by 6 month. The battery, electronic control, and float worked but the pump failed. Had to buy the whole setup again will keep old parts for spares. I will be really mad if fails again. At least no water got in basement.

After having my primary pump fail and flooding my basement I decided to search for a backup pump to give me piece of mind moving forward. It moves water in a hurry and is super quiet. Over a year and everything is running perfectly. I've heard mixed reviews with box box retailers cheaper back ups and I can assure you, spending the extra money on this system will be the best decision you could make.

I have two sump basins in my basement. One is the main that accepts the drain tile water and the other is the overflow basin in case the first one fills too quickly or the pump in that basin fails. I installed a Liberty 250 and Solid State Controller USC3 in the main basin.
In the overflow basin I installed this iON Battery Backup Sump System with dual batteries. I liked the idea of the extra run time in case of a power outage to protect my finished basement.
In looking at the iON website it appears this pump does not get much advertisement or marketing. Most of their advertisement is directed towards their more expensive systems.
A few issues I had:
1 - The platform that the pump sits on is a bit cheaply constructed. Mine was warped from the way it was packaged. I noticed the pump was wired tied to the platform and I thought that was for shipping purposes. I cut the wire ties because the pump had been pushed through the platform and wedged/stuck. I guess that occurred during shipping. Due to the warping, I can only put the pump on the platform in one direction, otherwise it falls through the platform. Also, it is not stable once it's resting on top so I went ahead and wire tied it back to the pump as it was when I opened it originally. Now with the pump in the direction on the platform that does not allow it to fall through and the wire ties, it's very solid.
2 - The directions seem to be outdated. They indicate that you need to bond the supplied elbow to the pump using pvc glue. However, they supplied a rubber coupling that was to be used instead.
3 - I did not realize that this system cannot run on AC and DC. Other system that are less expensive can do both. Apparently it is only recommended that this system runs on DC power. Something about battery drain was mentioned in the instructions.
Now for the good: So far this system is working great. That is only during my testing. However, this little pump runs quietly and evacuates the basin as quickly as my Liberty 250! Once setup, it seems very solid!!! I hope that it does it's job when needed, but have seen nothing so far that would indicate it will not perform.

After more than a year, still good

I bought this more than a year ago as a backup to my main sump pump. I like the system. I like the fact that the charger is advanced/intelligent and the battery is deep cycle AGM and not spitting acid into my battery container the way systems based on trickle charge and regular (deep cycle) wet batteries do.
I test it every few months and just did a test now. It's still working perfectly. Still seems like a good step up from the wet battery brands (the watchdogs and similar). I'm happy I took that step up.

Pump Died

Used for 6 months, the pump died during a power outage, left us using a bucket to bail out the sump.
Have to pay for shipping to send the defective pump back to the manufacturer, it's in the warranty. No reserve capacity (a common metric) listed on the foreign made battery, this is more important than amp/hour rating. Manufacturer cannot tell me what the reserve capacity is, makes me question the quality of the battery.

I Needed To Replace Another "Name Brand" Battery Backup Pump
By Alan Silvers

Review Posted 07/18/2013
About three years ago I installed another "name brand" electric primary and battery back-up sump pump system. I was never confident that the other battery unit would remove the water in the sump. From time to time I tested it and sometimes it would work, sometimes not. I needed to install a more reliable and better back-up pump.
I found a strong, reliable unit in the StormPro Pro2100. This pump removes the water in the sump as fast as the 1/3 hp electric primary pump. I feel confident and safe for the first time in years.
Regarding Sumppumpsdirect.com: I requested that the unit be shipped to me without delay. I ordered the unit on Thursday and it arrived on the folowing Tuesday. I am very pleased in both the customer service and the product. Thank you, Jim.

Helped with Sandy!

I bought this kit along with the StormPro 1/2 HP Pump. I got both installed about 3 weeks before Hurricane Sandy hit the NJ area.
A plumber had recommended 2 primary sump pumps given how high of a water table we have and how often he would hear the old one going off. Instead of that I went with the primary pump and the backup kit listed here.
The setup of the primary Storm Pro with this backup is perfect for our needs. Everything is working great and the backup got us through when we lost power, until I could get the generator fired up.
Well worth the money for the peace of mind.

Worth The Money

Excellent product.....the manual doesn't state it but the pump requires a 1/8" relief hole drilled about 2 inches from the outlet and below your check valve or you can have (i have experienced this) AIR LOCK.
My setup has 2 12-Volt deep cycle batteries, Awesome product!!! Keeps my home safe for a minimum of 10 hours when there is no power to run the main sump pump.

Answered by Jim, the Sump Pump Expert
How many Amps does the typical marine battery need to have to properly run a Battery Backup Sump Pump System? I've been told 105-150, but last plumber installed an 800 Amp and I'm wondering why the difference. Thank you for your reply.
