Only Got To Use This Once So Far, Works So Well
By Michael N.

Review Posted 03/24/2021
The blower arrived on time. It's easy to assemble, easy to "steer" and super easy to use. My kids want to take over snow blowing.
Be careful when ordering. My mistake, not Snow Blowers Direct. I wanted EFI and ordered a carburetor model instead. Again, my mistake.

Excellent Machine--As Advertised

It started up for the first time without a problem. We got a big snowstorm the day after our new snowblower arrived, and it performed exceptionally well. Just FYI... some assembly is required. It took me about an hour to put it together. Ariens has an assembly video for this model on YouTube (see below). It was very helpful.

Ariens Platinum 30 SHO, Not Worth The Money
By Matt .

Review Posted 02/06/2021
Finally got a snow to test out the new Ariens Platinum 30 SHO. The machine seems well built and definitely has power. I love the shoot control lever. What I hate is the auto turn feature. If you have a perfectly flat driveway I'm sure it works great. If you have any spots/areas of your driveway that are a little uneven it is absolutely terrible.
It will pull the machine to the high side of the pavement, so you are fighting the machine constantly to keep it straight. I bought a pair of ARMOR skids to replace the skid shoes Ariens provides with the machine, and it helps but didn't elevate the problem. Be careful when buying a machine with the auto turn feature!

Ariens Platinum 30 SHO
By Brad H.
Kalamazoo, Michigan
Purchased 11/27/2020 |
Review Posted 01/12/2021
This machine was easy to assemble and start. So far, the winter in southwest Michigan has been mild with no large snows so I've only used it once. However, that was on 3 inches of wet slushy snow with an ice crust. The Ariens Platinum threw this wet heavy mixture 20 ft with no problem, no bogging down or clogging -even at a high drive speed. It is extremely easy to maneuver- very similar to a zero-turn mower. The heated handgrips get hot fast too. I'm looking forward to using it on deeper heavier snows, which I'm sure it will take on with no problem!

GREAT BLOWER
By Richard W.

Review Posted 12/29/2020
Just used it for the first time in a 20 inch storm, and I have to say it went through the banks with no trouble at all. You do have to be careful not to hit things because it does throw the snow 40+ feet. Great blower, but be careful not to hit thing because it does throw the snow 40+ feet. Great blower my driveway & sidewalks.

service and delivery were excellent. The product on the other hand, left much to be desired. The installation instructions weren't great but we were able to work through them. The cable to turn the thrower broke immediately and was promptly replaced. The unit smoked and sputtered the first time, but was able to make it through eventually. The handgrips were a nice feature but didn't get very warm.
We tried to use it during the next snowstorm, but it wouldn't start. After messing with it for an hour or two, we decided to just shovel the walkways and let everything else melt.
The time after that, I got it started after about an hour, give or take, and it did pretty well. Less sputtering than the first time.
Today, I spent about 3 hours trying to get it running. It will fire then die after a second or two.
To summarize, we paid $2000 for something we were able to use twice, and our options are either pay to have it repaired, or leave it in the corner to collect dust. Dust aside, it's still clean enough to eat off of.

Bad Instructions, Expensive, Low Quality, Unreliable

Obviously High Quality & Design

The snowblower arrived several days late because of Old Dominion shipping errors. Once here, it was packaged very well and easy to assemble.
What caught my attention in the operating instructions was that they recommend a 'high altitude' engine kit for anything above 5000 ft. I live at 7300 feet in Colorado. After talking with the sales department, they don't ship anything but 'low altitude' snow blowers. They also don't sell 'high altitude' kits. And there is nothing on their web pages to indicate that a kit is recommended for altitudes above 5000 ft. They were very helpful in giving me the Ariens factory phone number. The factory is shipping me a kit for less than $20.
However, I think that the website should identify that the Ariens factory recommends a high altitude kit above 5000 ft. It would also be nice if SBD sold snowblowers with the kit already installed, or at least provided the kit in the ordering process. Since most of Colorado is above 5000 ft, any snow blowers shipped to our ZIP codes should come with the appropriate altitude kit.

Great Machine & Throws Snow Like Crazy
By Jim G.

This is the fourth snow blower I have owned. This is by far the best and most powerful. It throws snow as described, and the performance is amazing. Nothing slows it down. If you're looking for a powerful machine and a wide clearing path you won’t be disappointed. I live in the far west suburb of Denver against the foothills, and we get some hefty snowstorms. It’s worth spending a little more to get this machine.
