This came as part of the "installation" package.
It made the whole process much easier to deal with.
Didn't have to think of anything, it all came as a package!

Ordered this as part of a kit for installers to use in putting up a 24,000 btu Mitsubishi mini-split (AC only) system on my home. No issues on installation, and the surge protector that was part of the kit nicely integrated into it. It's maybe a couple dollars more than at my local Home Depot, but there was no sales tax and I liked the convenience of buying all that I needed in a mini-split accessory kit.
BTW, you may ask, as I did, why is this needed if in fact there's a separate circuit breaker on your panel for your mini-split system? After all, there’s a master “HVAC” breaker from my main panel to my HVAC sub-panel (I now have 4 mini-split systems mounted on my home), then each mini-split system has its own circuit breaker inside the subpanel. And then, finally, there’s this particular “sub-sub-panel,” mounted nearby each mini-split’s outside condenser, containing yet another cut-off swtich.
The answer is YOU! See, if a repair guy shows up and flicks the circuit off at the main circuit breaker panel, and again at the sub-panel, THEN goes up the ladder (my condenser and head are wall-mounted) to work on your system, THIS additional switch protects him . . . from you!
How? He’s flicked off this third switch, too, and then doesn't have to worry if you stupidly wander past your main circuit panel and flick the breaker switches back "on" while he's got his fingers somewhere inside your unit.
Right. Why would you do that?
Anyway, they made this third-layer, cut-off switch "code" (required) because of that possibility.
So basically, you're spending extra dollars to protect downwind technicians from . . . YOU! The installer guys and I had a good laugh when I noticed the redundancy and asked them (and they confirmed by conclusion) if I just blew an extra wad “to protect y’all from dopey old men like me?”

Good disconnect switch

I purchased this along with the separate switch as I thought it was a weather tight box only.
I was wrong, it is in fact a box with a pull switch inside, so I returned the switch.
Also, double check your manufacturer's install requirements as my unit requires 8 gauge wire and the included whip is 10. However, it was not difficult to remove the 10 and pull the 8, whip and fittings are large enough.
