It's a Beast
By Dave K.

Review Posted 09/20/2023
Bought mine end of 2011. Have 800 hrs on it and still going. I used it for mowing, towing trailer loads of 700lbs +, snow removal and more and it's handled it all.
I've only had to replace head gaskets on the 26hp Kohler and the seat.
The rest has just been basic maintenance with exception of replacement of fuel lines.
Tough machine. Very little rust including on the mower deck which we no longer use.
It's now just our towing and gopher cart.

The deck only has less than half the height adjustment that it should have. You will have to go over the lawn twice to get a good cut. I am on the third starter. After about 100 hrs the Kohler engine started running, took it in and they rebuilt the carburetor and it still wouldn’t run, finally pulled the plug wires one at a time and found that the coils were bad. Went to the Kohler website and found that they knew there was a problem but it cost me well over $100 to buy mags to fix the problem, I wanted a Briggs when I got it but Sears couldn’t tell me how long I would have to wait so, I settled for this one, big mistake should have waited!

Worst Sears Product And Tractor I Ever Own
By Unhappy Camper

Review Posted 05/08/2023
I guess I should start with the Delivery (3 X that is) each time something was defect with the tractor, one time the paint was chipped and scratched so bad. ! time the deck was hanging and missing pieces. The 3rd time I don't even remember. I was going to cancel the order, but at that time the Sears representative promised me he would make it right.
Thank good for my initial Expend warranty. In the 1st 3 years they replaced the Front Assembly 3 Times the tires 2 times. No matter how much I greased them they would break or fall off.
I had to replace the Deck 1x and they ordered the wrong deck 2x, instead of the 3 blade deck I would up with the 2 blade deck.
Consistent Oil Leak they attempted to fix 4 times and never did. Kept blaming it on the drain valve. I've had about 8 years now and keep it running but it's getting harder and harder. Can't find the right size rim or tires for it anymore. Sears pretty much went out of business so that does you know good.
There is no easy access to anything. If you have to anything with the Transmission, like change the oil or anything, you have to take 1/2 the tractor apart.
Truthfully if I'm not mistake it's made my Husarvana for Sears, the real shame is I was actually looking at the Husarvana version 1st. Now I'm wondering how good that would have been. I've kept it running now cause I really don't have another 5 G's to sink into a new tractor.
But truthfully, for everything I initially read about this tractor and them buying it. I wouldn't recommend it to my worse enemy.

Awesome Tractor For The Money

Review Posted 09/05/2022
I have a 2013 approaching 400 hours and cut 2.25 acres with it. The only issue I had with it was when it was new it had a bad oil leak Sears sent out a technician to my home and replaced the head gasket. Since then it has done nothing but works without a glitch. I could use a larger tractor at times but for cutting the grass, pulling trailer, lawn aerator, and other attachments I have no complaints. Good tractor!

The Last Sears Product I Will Ever Own
By Christopher
Easley, South Carolina
Review Posted 04/03/2019
I've owned this piece of equipment for just under 5 years and I can attest it's an embarrassment to the Sears product line. Its grass cutting abilities were so bad I thought something was mechanically wrong within the first 30 days of ownership. A Sears tech came out to investigate. After spending an hour at my house, making adjustments and replacing parts he gave up and recommended that I just get used to going over my grass twice.

This lawn tractor now has the dubious distinction of being the only one I've ever owned to have the front wheels fall off. Despite the fact that I routinely greased the fittings the wheel bushings on both wheels have now worn out twice. The first time it happened I thought it a fluke and foolishly ordered replacement parts from Sears. Now that it's happened twice, I have found a bushing product online which fits and installed them hoping they are of better quality than the OEM. I would laugh had I not paid money for this tractor.

So far the engine seems fine and powerful although I question if the starter motor is weak as sometimes when hot it refuses to turn over. The transmission hasn't failed yet but based on overall performance of this tractor I expect it to go sometime in the near future. Bottom line, if I had the financial means I'd set this tractor on fire, push it off a cliff and buy a John Deere.

Good Mower

This is a good mower. Has 450 hours over 8 years. Be prepared to do some repairs though. Could use some tougher components (i.e. pulleys), but the motor is strong. Installed mulching kit, but had to use extra screws into the deck to help close it off. I agree with the front-end issues some others have reported. Cheap or soft metal was used on tie rods and spindles and needs improvement. Would buy again but would hope the items I listed would have been improved.

Great Tractor! Lousy, Horrible Delivery, By Non-Sears People!
By Stan W.
Darien, Illinois
Review Posted 11/25/2017
Had it since spring of '14. Great running, starting, and performing tractor. Love it! I use it to cut grass, chop weeds and leaves, snow-plow, spread fertilizer and seed, use a box-scraper for dirt, and haul a cart and de-thatcher. Doesn't lose or burn oil.

A MAJOR, MAJOR problem was at delivery. The Non-Sears people tried to unload my 6' long tractor with a 3' long lift. They bent and damaged my brand new unit. One customer had it right VIDEO TAPE THE UNLOADING OF ANY LARGE ITEM by ANYONE. I will always do this for the rest of my life.

Other items, but minor: The plastic oil drain valve was the dumbest idea I've every heard of. It didn't function it worked its way loose, and couldn't be tightened or operated right. The hot, oil drain valve deserves a METAL drain valve, which I soon put on.

A questionable design, IMHO, is that you don't get enough functional "up" adjustment for cutting grass or weeds higher than normal. The "throw" of the cutting height adjustment is delivered, seemingly, with lots of unusable "down". But since you have bogy wheels that limit the "down-throw" of the deck, that "throw" is wasted. (Even if you didn't have the bogy wheels, there aren't many of us that cut their grass at the 0.75" Golf-Course level, right?

Suggestions for the future: put red brake/running lights on the back for when I'm cutting along the highway in front of my house.

Update To My Original Review
By Eric R.

Review Posted 10/18/2017
Update to my original review. I've owned this machine now for about 5 years, and it is still performing amazingly well. Starts up immediately, runs like a champ. I keep it maintained myself and make sure to change the oil 2 times a year (I run winter oil for the snow thrower). If you know how to maintain these machines, they will last forever. Also, it's worth noting that the steering assembly is absolutely fine and I've had no issues with alignment. It's still perfect.

Front End Goes Out Of Alignment And No Way To Adjust It
By Jay L.
Erwin, North Carolina
Review Posted 10/07/2017
The front end becomes out of alignment pretty quickly and gets worse and worse. There is no way to adjust the alignment. This began probably in the first year I owned the machine. I have had the machine about 5 years now. I have replaced front tires much more often as a result, and it is so bad that it is more than visible - it is now tearing up the lawn. The other day I tried pushing the tractor, engine off and disengaged. Pushing backwards was easy. HOWEVER, due to the alignment problem, pushing the tractor forward causes the front wheels to pigeon-toe out making it seem like the brakes are on.

SURVIVED THE TEST OF TIME!
By Larry P.

I've been using a GT6000 48" deck Craftsman garden tractor since 2003. It has always mowed well. It's approaching 600 hours on the hour meter. Our two acre parcel is very hilly and there are over 440 trees of all sizes and health which the tractor must navigate. It's used to haul a 700 lb. capacity dump cart and occasionally moves our 1000 lb. utility trailer, both up and down hill. When it was new, it was outfitted with a fully enclosed operator's compartment and a snow blower with tire chains, wheel and rear weights. It blew snow 35' and cleared roadways totaling 1/4 mile for two winters. Parts have worn out and been replaced.

The motor blew a head gasket a few years back due to overheating because the design of that particular motor made it almost impossible to keep the cooling ribs cleared of debris. It hasn't rusted at all and the deck has had NO issues at all. I'm fussy about maintenance, which may explain why it has lasted so long. I will replace it next Spring and give it to my son-in-law, who should get several more years of service from it. I'm replacing it only so I get most of the "good" out of the replacement before I die. I'm now 70 and want a mower with power lift and power steering. Hopefully that'll be enough to keep me going a few more years.
