Throw Away Vs Cub Cadet
By Jeffrey R.
Louisiana
Purchased 09/16/2023 |
Review Posted 10/31/2023
When I was researching lawnmowers, I was gonna go with the brand that was the lowest cost. But after seeing what the prices were, I was shocked that for a routine throw away lawn mower, you know, the ones that tell you no oil change is required, was $450+. Wow, I was shocked. That told me I better look for something that will last. So after hours of looking at the online choices, I found the 21" cut, Cub Cadet. FWD walk behind mower. Has a Kohler 173 cc engine (most walk behind mower engines are 143 cc). It also has a pressurized oil system which includes a screw on oil filter!) and a snap on/off air filter that can be removed for easy cleaning. The one thing that I questioned was the presence of a "choke" lever. Most models these days don't have a choke system and start on one crank most of the time. Not to worry however as the Cub starts on the first crank (pull) every time.

Other than that, it has all the standard features and setups that all the rest of the FWD, high rear wheel mowers have...mulch, bag or side discharge and a two handle height adjustment setup. Easy adjusting as needed. The ONLY thing that it does not do and that's storage...it can't be stored vertically. For some that's a big deal. But not for me.

I have had the Cub this entire grass cutting season (in Louisiana) where the grass needs cutting weekly. There are no issues with anything and finally, its a Cub Cadet product. We use a Cub Cadet "zero-turn" to cut our flying field runway and that monster is indestructible. We bought it used and have had to change the belts and battery - that's it!

I can say with confidence I believe the Cub FWD walk behind mower will give us years of service. Highly recommend!

Self Propelled Mower

It arrived I assembled it and the self-propelled function did not work I took it to the place that Cub Cadet told me to, but the dealer said Cub Cadet was difficult to work with and I ended up paying the bill, so I would not recommend a Cub Cadet product based on the customer service.

Poor Instructions

Nice machine but hard to assemble with poor instructions. In my case, when this big box arrived, I opened the end of the box and had a very hard time dragging the mower out. Cut all the plastic ties thinking they were to hold the machine in place. When I pulled the machine out of the box, all the cables flew out unattached without ties. Took me 5 days to figure out which cables went where.

Ordered on Friday, got on Saturday, cut grass on Sunday. very little assembly. 173cc is a big difference over my old 150cc because we have an incline on our property. speed control is different than I used before but no problem. Starts on the first pull. First summer using it so time will tell but for now, I'm very pleased with this machine.

Disappointing customer service, new mower not working, and getting the RUN AROUND!

Easy On The Eyes With Power A Plenty
By Kenton G.

Review Posted 07/12/2023
She came with very little to assemble 5 minutes tops. A little cable reroute and ready for oil and gas. Started on first pull, no priming or choke to worry about. I have now used twice. My grass is thick and mower never bogged down like my last. The mower could use a little more traction from the front wheels. Other from that I like this machine.

I did not get the item I ordered which was the 300k instead they sent me the model 300, which I assume is an older model. The mower is on the heavier side and the rear end is plastic. The large rear wheels makes it awkward to maneuver. The mower starts with one pull but runs a little rough, FWD is not as strong as I expected but the cut is great, the bag is a little small but adequate, compared to my Lawnboy RWD when it was working, this mower is not as good, but the cut is better.

Great Product
By Ryan S.

This is the first self propelled mower I have owned. My experience and knowledge with them is limited. I know o wanted a good brand with decent quality.
It was fairly easy to setup. This is not an easy pull start. It will walk through average and above average grass no problem. I did have to keep adjusting the self propelled tension knob on the handle. I attribute this to the mower being new and breaking in. In does pull great. And even out performs the Honda Troy built I previously had. It even has an oil filter on the motor.
I believe (and hope) that I will get many years of service out of this product

I've used it quite a bit already. It is a pretty good mower. When it arrived the choke was broken. After I fixed that, it has worked great.
