Tore through 30 cm tamaris (harder than oak as wet as willow). In comparison my Honda 15 inch gas powered started to stall on the same wood. Good steady cut no hint of slowing down through the cuts. Nice feel, ergonomic, good heft, solid construction, deep solid sounding internals. Store it flat so the bar & chain oil will not leak.

Dolmar Electric Chain Saw

I have only used the Dolmar 16" electric chainsaw for about 40 hours of cutting up downed trees for firewood. For this purpose, it is fast, powerful, and easy to use. It will cut through seasoned oak logs 12" or more in diameter with no problem. I purchased it looking for a reliable and long lasting product which does not use internal plastic gears, so far so good, but I haven't used it enough to determine it's reliability.

This saw is more expensive than it's competition, but I have hopes that overall it will be a better value. I would recommend this product with only one caution. The cutting chain that comes with this saw from the manufacturer is usable but too long and cannot be tightened properly. You should replace the chain with an Oregon 3/8" 56 link chain which fits properly.

Works, leaks

Works as expected for a high-price saw. But you can't store it vertically (hung by the handle) with bar oil in the tank - it leaks continuously: That's fine if stored in a dirt-floor barn, NOT fine in a suburban garage!

So after each occasional use, I have to drain all the bar oil out before hanging it up. I bought this to supplement two gasoline-powered saws that I have to drain out oil and gas mixture after use, thinking with this saw I'd have a saw ready to use without prep. Not going to happen with this one!!!

You may have better luck storing your saw on a shelf (either floor-standing or wall-mounted). If it's placed horizontally on a shelf, it shouldn't leak.

I haven't even used it, and I have to take it to a repair center, which is 30 miles away. If you want a quality product, pick another brand.

Professional Chain Saw, Contractor Quality
By Robert H.

I have had 4 electric chainsaws of consumer quality, what this means is that the drive gear is high grade is plastic or Teflon material. If you are doing several days of cuttings the main drive gears lasts about 8 to 24 hours of heavy use. Then the gear cogs strip. It cost about 1/2 the cost of the Chain Saw to have this gear replaced.

The Main Chain Drive Gear of this Electric Chain Saw is high quality metal. It has the power of a consumer gasoline engine chain saw with a 14.5 amp motor. It cut just as well as the gasoline engine chain saws that you can buy at Home Depot or Lowe's. I would rate it as a very high quality consumer chain saw, and a medium duty contractor chain saw.

The rating below is for the Consumer.
