The HydroCheck HC8000T Electronic Sump Pump Float Switch with Programmable Run Time and Built-in Alarms works with all types of sump pumps and can be used in place of any float switch. Unlike traditional float switches, the HC8000T is unaffected by water with high mineral or iron content due to its dry-sensor technology. No submerged parts in the pit ensures reliability.
The HC8000T will run the pump for a precise amount of time when triggered by the water reaching the sensor tip. How It Works
The placement of the sensor determines when the programmed pump cycle begins. After the cycle has finished, the pump will turn off. Following the sequence below, the operation is as follows:
1. The pump is off when the water is below the sensor.
2. When water reaches the sensor the pump is turned on.
3. The pump stays on for the duration of the programmed run time.
4. The pump is turned off when the programmed run time has expired.
Notice that in the HC8000T's operation the sensor is never submerged and is therefore unaffected by water with high mineral or iron content.

The rating depends on the water flow level variation you have. This sensor can be programmed to run a pump for a specific time after the sensor is triggered. That is a useful ability but it has a problem in that for heavier rains the pump may need to stay on longer than for lighter rainstorms. If the pump is set for moderate rainfall, it will shut off too soon to empty the sump for a heavier inflow rate which can be a problem and you may need to reprogram it for a longer time and then reset it for lighter rains with a shorter time. Ideally you could 'set it and forget it'.
The previous model HC8000 used to detect a change in the pump current when the pump emptied the sump and shut itself off. That worked much better for me as it didn't depend on the water inflow rate---it pumped until the sump was empty and stopped. With the sensor set for a specific run time as on this model, it will run too long for light flows and too short for heavy flows. I would like to see the original model available again as well. I don't know why it is no longer available.

I purchased two HydroCheck HC8000 Electronic Sump Pump Switches, but only installed one. I did not like the results since my pump did not always turn off properly. Too many times it continued to run and suck air.
I contacted the HydoCheck factory via email and received a quick reply. It was explained to me that the switch may not detect the current (amperage) difference between pumping water and shut off, resulting in this issue of sucking air. It was explained that this can happen if the pump does not have to work hard to make a discharge and he suspected my new Liberty 250 (non-automatic) pump’s low amp draw during on/off cycles was too low to detect.
So, they sent me a different version of the switch, the HC8000T, which is timer based and not dependent on electrical current. I was sent two HC8000T switches in exchange for my two HC8000 versions with a prepaid mailing label. HydroCheck stood by their product and made the exchange easy. They provided a quick resolve with a different application. I have two HC8000T units offset in the pit with two Liberty 250 pumps.
I also called Sump Pump Direct and Jim O. and the crew were prepared to assist also even though HydroCheck had the solution.
I recommend this HC8000T if you’re looking for a timer based application.

This is a great product. Float switches found on the standard pump will fail, but the electronic switch will not. Why take the risk! We have placed these units in multiple homes we have and rest easy knowing the pump will activate properly.

It set up easily, I like the led warnings. I read that contact can get dirty and not conduct circuit so far have not had problem, only problem is sometimes won't completely empty pit, on set up it did run for at least 5 sec. Based on this not sure if i would recommend or not.

I had to install one of these in a 12 in. basin with a sump pump where size was an issue. Easy to install and works like a dream. Only improvement I would recommend is to make the plug smaller so that an outdoor receptacle cover plate would close all the way shut.

What is the actual voltage in the wire running from the sensor to the plug-in module? It looks way too thin for 120V. My customer wants to use a sensor to activate the pump he had installed in his backyard to remove flooding rain water off of his property.
