Simplicity 22 Inch - Single Stage
By Thomas R.

I looked at several other manufacturers of machines of similar size and found this to be the best specification wise. My only apprehension was the name "Simplicity" because I was more familiar with Sears, Toro, John Deere, Husqvarna, etc. This works just great for me here in Denver, Colorado where we get snow of various depths from 2 inches to 12 inches. I have a 9 car driveway and its just perfect for what I need. Easy to use, somewhat quiet and has adequate power. Highly recommend this for the average household/ normal winters.

Reliable Product

Bought this for the electric start feature, in the event the conventional way of starting it would fail using the pull cord. Haven't needed to use the electric feature as of yet, not having any problems starting it is a big plus. Who needs not being able to start their machine with snow on the ground and in bitter cold weather to deal with this problem. Also liked the features, reviews and ratings. The gas gauge is another good thing to have, no guess work in the amount of fuel you have left. So far I feel I have made the right choice in this purchase, hasn't let me down yet.

We have a 1 year old Ariens Compact 24 but, even though it's small for a 2 stage, it is still heavier than I'd like for smaller snows. I decided to get the Simplicity SS922EX after reading the reviews over the last 2 years. I am so glad I did, especially given all the snow we are getting this year. This blower is very maneuverable and powers through the snow. I still use the Ariens for snow drifts but otherwise always go for the Simplicity. Well worth the money!

Shipped fast, looks good and was easy to put together. It was missing a bolt that holds the chute adjustment on the handle. Had to go to the hardware store to get one. It worked great on the first 2.5 inch snow.

First Snowblower

Arrived two days before our first big snowstorm (only 4" though). Very impressed with the unit, it started first pull on the starter out of the box and first pull when getting ready to blow snow. Did an outstanding job of clearing my two driveways, pathway along the house and the patio between the house and garage - I even walked across the street and did my neighbor's two car wide driveway with no problem at all.
This was a light fluffy snow, will have to wait and see how it does with a heavier, wet snow, but I think that it should be OK as long as the snow isn't allowed to get too high.
No telling about long term durability, but I've always had good luck with B&S engines and this one seems as it's going to be good too. Will have to try the electric start on the next snow.

Long Island got it's first snow storm, 11in. I put it together the day before and used it the following day on a very large driveway that wraps around the house. The blower worked great and did the job. The following day I finished up a few areas and helped a neighbor clear his driveway. I am very glad I bought it and the reviews are correct.

I've been using a Sears Craftsman 2-stage self-propelled blower for over 30 years. It's a beast that will go thru anything, but lately has required constant tinkering as things wear out and break. Plus frankly it's overkill considering the mild winters the last few years. So when looking to replace it I was nervous about getting a smaller machine, but I'm at an age when the big unit was getting hard to muscle around, so I bought the Simplicity, going with the high-end model strictly because of the added torque, which seemed worth the additional $50 over the 822.

Well, three days after buying it we had the biggest winter storm in over a decade! My driveway had 18" drifts in it, which are about 6" above the height of the opening, but it went through with no problem! I just took smaller bites, allowing the snow to crumble over the top of the hood and then picked it up on the next pass. One thing I really like is being able to maneuver it manually my old unit was difficult to turn around due to its weight and also required a reverse gear. It was a real workout compared to the new one.

Needless to say, I am pleased that I'm unlikely to encounter anything worse than this (although the plow hasn't gone down our street yet and that is always "fun" to clear), and the Simplicity came thru with flying colors.

I agree that the instructions are wrong as you have to turn the choke counter-clockwise to the "on" position. The chute mechanism on mine needs adjustment as it swivels too far to the left and not far enough to the right. Also, the starter module was not fully seated and almost fell out the first time I went to try the electric starter. But these are minor quibbles I'm very happy with my purchase.

Sound advice

Having recently moved back to a rural setting with a lot of drive way to clear I was in need of snow blower. I read a number of reviews and talked myself into wanting a two stage model. Next, I talked with a friend that does this for a living. He recommended this brand based on his past experience and also a single stage model. I went with the recommendation and have no regrets. The assembly and operating instructions were simple and clearly written. I have used the blower on four occasions so far. It really throws the dry powder snow (up to 8 inches) with gusto. Feed rate for wetter/heavier snow is reduced but still has enough power to chew through it. The light feature is well worth the extra money. Remote chute control feature is very handy and the engines gas consumption is unbelievably low. The unit starts on on one to two pulls of the cord every time. Am well pleased with the purchase.
