This machine is awesome! It RIPS through the toughest of weeds and grass like nothing. Never had a straight shaft before but now that I have it I'll never go back. As far as it being too heavy it's not - the shoulder strap (included) takes all the weight. I've got a big yard and this beefed up weed eater impressed me so much - if your on the fence, well I'd recommend this one - I hunted every where, in stores and on line, and came up lucky. Cheers!

Cons:
Heavy, Difficult To Use, Unreliable
Poor Trimmer Heads

I bought my trimmer LESS than a year ago and the "bounce" trimmer advance stopped working correctly last season. I used it once this season and the line got stuck in the head. Poor engineering and NO WARRANTY for being used only 5 months.

A new head ordered for $20. and another $35. in labor to have it installed (since there are no directions on how to "do it yourself").

Good thing it has the detachable ATTACHMENTS to make it worthwhile. I purchased this model for the power starter option. It works great!

TRY ANOTHER MAKE FOR TRIMMERS!

Expert Response
When purchased through our site, these trimmers do come with a 2-year consumer warranty. Try contacting MTD/Troy-Bilt at (800) 269-6215 and providing them with the serial number for your trimmer. They should be able to tell you whether or not you have a warranty.

Good Quality

The trimmer is well built and sturdy. Easy to start and does a good job trimming.

Must stop frequently (every 5 to 10 minutes) when string breaks inside rotating head. The head has to be taken apart to pull string from inside the head.

The design of the rotating head should be reviewed to prevent the string from breaking inside the head.

Can't buy simple replacement parts
By Dale J.
Hastings, Michigan
Review Posted 07/06/2014
My model was the TB675EC. The pull start mechanism attaches to the cooling fan and then to the motor spindle. The cooling fan is very thin sheet steel that has a stamped hole in the center, with a flat on one side to grab the motor spindle. This flat strips out. I bought mine about midway through last Summer. It worked great for the remainder of the Summer and through this past Spring, until the spindle nut loosened and the fan stripped out. This also caused the pull starter housing to break. The pull Starter housing was easy enough to replace and fairly cheap. The fan, which should be a $5.00 part, cannot be sold without the entire engine block. I was told by Troy-Bilt's customer service that this is because it is made in China and imported as a single unit. The cost of the part ends up being $70.00 plus shipping. I'll never buy another Troy-Bilt again.
