Tsumani Moisture Minder Automatic Tank Drain
By John S

I couldn't be happier with the Tsunami pneumatically operated compressor tank drain. I did not buy the installation kit because I had most of the fittings and tubing needed to tap into the compressor unloader valve. I have wanted one of these for many years, but never bought one because I thought they were overpriced. I recently discovered the Tsunami tank drain, thought the price was right, and ordered it. It came quickly, and I installed it the very same day. The best thing is that it works perfectly by removing the oily water from my tank on every start/stop cycle of the compressor. Thanks for making such a great product!

Best One Made

I read about many automatic tank drains and decided this one is the very best for the money and is very well engineered using high quality materials and only drains every time the compressor cycles off. Unlike the electric models that just keep draining your air tank every few minutes. I like this one so much and it was very easy to install and mount anywhere you like. It also came with good picture instructions. I would definitely recommend this to everyone wanting a hassle free tank drain that will last a long time without any problems.

Which Unloader

Overall this looks like a good product and the deluxe installation kit is a reasonable cost if you want the filter and mounting bracket. If not, 1/4 in tubing and adapters are available for much less. I assume the tank does not have a bladder and needs to be installed upward, but this is not mentioned in the documentation.
My biggest issue was misunderstanding where to hook up the pneumatic control line from the Tsunami on an older eaton compressor with head unloaders and a breather tube from the top of the centrifugal mechanism to a valve on the top of the head.
I chose the wrong location (and adapters) twice before understanding the correct location for the tee. I wish they had some pictures of common installations to provide guidance for this, It turned out I only needed to buy one 1/4 tube to 1/4 MIP adapter and a single 1/4 od compression to i/4 FIP adapter and place it on the 1/4 tuibe from the chack valve to the centrigugal unloader on the "nose" of the compressor.
Of course, I had installed the tube for the drain line first and by the time I had figured this out, the remaining tube had been trimmed a little too short for the correct "unloader" connection.
This line could easily be done in 1/4 copper tube with a couple of fittings at a very reasonable cost. However, the cost of the Tsunami filter (as recommended by otheres to avoid debris clogging the unit) is almost as much as the deluxe kit.
Understand that the unloader line has nothing to do with head unloaders. Next figure out how your centrifugal unloader (or mechanical on the switch) work and are located buy chasing them back to the HP vent line. This line is where the TEE needs to be installed. Since I'm not a pro, use these comments at your own risk (of installing in the wrong line).

Tsunami Moisture Minder

I actually have two Tsunami moisture minders, one on an 80 gallon 7 hp compressor and the other on a 30 gallon 2 hp compressor. They do what they are designed for. The unit on the larger compressor is approaching two years of service with absolutely no problems. If I had ten compressors every one would be equipped with a Tsunami.

Complete Piece Of Junk

I've had this thing installed on my Quincy for several months now. It has yet to trigger and drain any water.
Thankfully I installed a T fitting on my drain so I can still do it manually and bypass this worthless device.
Don't buy it, it doesn't do anything.

Great Product

Works exactly as advertised, only dinged the rating because the installation kit is so expensive. I didn't buy it even though the strainer/valve part is pretty tricky. I just used copper tubing and brass fittings for around 20 bucks at the local hardware store and a cheapo strainer from the local Chinese goods importer. I wish I would have considered how tall the reservoir bottle is and gotten the unit without it, the install would have been much easier and not required me to make a custom bracket. I could have just drilled a hole instead.

Great At What It Does

Relatively easy to install and hook up. If you can install your own compressor, you can install a Moisture Minder... (I did not use the Tsunami hook-up kit. I purchased a few fittings and the copper tubing from my local plumbing supplier.) I like it because it needs no electricity (no timer to fail). Because it is not electric, it does not run every few minutes. Instead, it evacuates accumulated water every time the compressor automatically shuts off.
I plumbed my Moisture Minder with a Tee, so I can still crack a ball valve open and drain water manually 'just in case'. Proof that the Moisture Minder is doing its job, is that I never get water out of my air receiver when I crack open the manual ball valve (done once a day per Quincy instructions.).
It is a clever device, well designed and manufactured, and it functions perfectly. Every compressor should come with a Moisture Minder already installed. Until then, you should not hesitate to install one on your compressor. Highly recommended!
I gave it a four on Value, because I feel that it is a little on the pricey end of the scale. On the other hand, you do get what you pay for. It is a premium product, for a reasonable price.
