Does this pump require a weep hole?

Answer

While most sump and sewage should have a weep hole drilled in the discharge pipe, this Wayne pump does not require it. This is due to their top suction design. Where most pumps suck the water in through the bottom and underneath the base, this pump sucks the water in from around the top of the base. I always say that, no matter what, it's never a bad idea to drill the weep hole, but with this style of pump, it's not as important.

Will the brine during a regeneration harm this pump if the water softener is drained directly to the sump pit?

Answer

This would really depend on the dilution rate of that water softener. Does your sump basin normally have water in it to help dilute that brine? If not, it's not good for this and most other sump pumps. Your best option in that case would be something like the Little Giant 10EN-CBA-SFS - 1/2 HP Cast Bronze Submersible Effluent Pump w/ Vertical Float Switch. If the brine is diluted, the Wayne pump will suffice, but it still will not last as long as it could, and the warranty would be void. This is all assuming that you have a normal 5-10 foot discharge head lift with a maximum 5 - 50 foot horizontal run.

I would like to draw water from a pond to use for lawn care. Vertical lift would be ~ 12-20' with potentially up to 100' of hose running to gardens. What would be an appropriate pump for this configuration? thanks, scott

I USE 2 WAYNE PUMPS. ONE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SUMP AND ONE TOWARDS THE TOP AS i SOMETIMES GET A LOT OF WATER AND NEED THE EXTRA PUMP AND ALSO USE FOR BACKUP. I HAVE BEEN USING THE WAYNE CDU980. EVERY YEAR I HAVE TO BUY A NEW PUMP AS THE PUMP NO LONGER WORKS. WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN? I NEED TO BUY 2 MORE SPARES BUT AM TIRED OF RPLACING THESE PUMPS EACH YEAR. THE BOTTOM PUMP GETS ALL RUSTY AND THEN STOPS PUMPING. ADVISE? i HAVE A FRENCH DRAIN SYSTEM.

Answer

It's possible that you are using too strong of a pump. Perhaps a 1/3HP or 1/2HP pump would be sufficient? When it comes to sump pumps, bigger is not better. By using a pump that is over-sized for your application, the pump will cycle much more frequently which is not good for the pump and thus reduce the life of that pump. Since you are already using a 2 pump system, think about replacing that main pump with a model CDU790 1/3HP or model CDU800 1/2HP pump and keep the CDU980 for your "secondary" pump to take up the slack.

My sump pump has been acting up and I think it is time to replace it. My basin is 11 1/2 by 11 1/2 and 22 inches deep. The pump is used for moving water from the washing machine to the sewage pipe. I was looking at the Wayne CDU 3/4 HP. Do you think this would be a good fit.

Answer

The running watts required for this Wayne pump is 1200 watts. Unfortunately, we do not have the starting watts rating that would be required, which is just as important. You might try calling Wayne tech support at 800-237-0987 for that information. Also, please note that any number that you get, including the 1200 running watts would need to be multiplied by 20% to insure the generator would always have enough power (running and starting watts) to provide.
